What does that mean to you?

For me it has been a place.

A place where everything feels right and at peace. I've had a couple of them through the years.

One was a place in Old Town by the docks where they had these blue lights.

Another was the King and Queen buildings campus in Sandy Springs. I'd go walk around there at night.

At the house it's up in a nook. Not every time I I'm there, but when the moment and timing is right.

For me it's a 1989 Robert Plant Album. 3 hit singles though I'm partial to Ship of Fools - a very nice vibe to it.

As some one else posted, everything feels right, you are content in the moment no matter your location or situation.

I spent a lot of time in Afghanistan, a few months shy of 4 years in country. With all of the chaos, the lurking danger and being away from home there were times where I felt that peace and contentment. Usually, especially during the summer months, between 0400 and 0500 we would always have a lull in our flying schedule. I can remember sitting there looking at the sun just starting to break the horizon, the coolest part of the day, dead silence. Dead silence. I remember thinking to myself how perfect that time was and how much it was needed.

There's a lot of things I'll never replicate being over there. That might be one of them.

Until one endures the heat of the valley he can not fully appreciate the cool breeze on the mountaintop.

Got Zen?

"1 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
that calls me from a world of care,
and bids me at my Father's throne
make all my wants and wishes known.
In seasons of distress and grief,
my soul has often found relief,
and oft escaped the tempter's snare
by thy return, sweet hour of prayer!

2 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
the joys I feel, the bliss I share
of those whose anxious spirits burn
with strong desires for thy return!
With such I hasten to the place
where God my Savior shows his face,
and gladly take my station there,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

3 Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
thy wings shall my petition bear
to him whose truth and faithfulness
engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since he bids me seek his face,
believe his word, and trust his grace,
I'll cast on him my every care,
and wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Out on my deck right now. In the back garden. Listening to the crickets jamming. Met a new friend earlier. Not all days are like this, but God has sent mercy and goodness through most of the days of my life.

I've seen Zen, almost dying under the water. I've seen my Father in Zen when I was 5 and almost choked to death. He calmly saved my life.

I've seen Zen when I've been laid off and the unemployed of that company became rulers.

Even Zen is not something you can earn.
