Zechariah Owens, prized 2023 OL recruit is 6’5” and 365 lbs

Aug 5, 2022, 2:56 PM

... entering his senior year in high school!

Just for those expressing shock and dismay over the recent weigh in of D. Pennington.

The threshold for being too big and too heavy seems to be constantly “expanding” ...

Are Pennington and Owens too big and too heavy?

This remains to be seen.

That's too heavy for 99%.***

I haven't known too many small country dudes named Zechariah. They were all large individuals.

Owens will likely lose at least 15 lbs at Clemson

Once a guy like that gets into a college strength and conditioning program, and away from mommas cooking, they tend to get more cut. For example big Dex lost almost 20 lbs in his first summer conditioning program.

Let's keep in mind that D. Pennington is coming off a major injury and rehab. It is not uncommon for a player to be out that long and put on a high amount of weight. Especially someone who was already big to begin with. As a person who has played college football before I can tell you that during summer practice he is going to lose a good 20 to 30 lb of that before the season. Same way a lot of those players who weighed in are about 10 lb heavier than last year, they will shed that 10 lb before the first game. This is not a major concern for me as it may be for others

I remember Tyrone crowder came in pretty overweight and took him a few years to get off bad weight. Don’t remember what he played at though. I just remembered he was rather large.

According to Dabo you know our coach, Pennington is a lean very strong 360 lbs. We all have been clambering for big nasties well boys we got them. Here's to an improved O line

As I said in another post...

The summer heat should trim him down to about 340-345....

Owens appears to have the bone structure to carry such weight
