Hypocrisy

Mar 11, 2022, 7:40 AM

Putin threatens to unleash nukes if we directly intervene militarily in Ukraine. I don’t advocate that we do so, to be clear.

However, during the Vietnam war, Russian MIGs were supplied to the North Vietnamese. Russian pilots trained the Vietnamese and actually are thought to have flown some combat missions.

Russians provided direct assistance in setting up the North Vietnamese air defense systems and assisting them with operating these systems which shot down many U.S. pilots.

I don’t recall threatening to unleash our nukes.

Putin can’t take a joke.

I get your point, but my take away is we just can’t help ourselves in dabbling in everyone else’s affairs.

Just as ok with that as leaving China alone with their genocide. There are more than 40MM slaves in this world today- where do you draw the line and say we need to take care of our country first? We’re only getting weaker with every endeavor we try to fix around the world!

That’s spineless foreign policy and distinctly

un-American. Not what I would ever want to project to our allies and foes. The US is a world leader and needs to behave as one. Building a coalition of countries with shared values to oppose this kind of offensive move by Russia is what we are all about. We won’t Putin run around thrashing the Baltics without consequence. The sooner he knows to fear those consequences, the better.

Aren’t NATO and the UN great! We spend more than 10 x’s the next largest contributor and for what? To spread democracy?

The whole thing is a sham. We’d be better off taking care of ourselves first and making ourselves stronger. Isn’t it UN-American to wreck our economy and weaken our abilities by spending ourselves into oblivion for other countries? They should be paying us for partnership and protection not the other way around!

No. And we're not doing nothing. Am I opposed to flying Polish jets from a USAF base in Germany into Ukraine even flown by Ukrainian pilots, yes. The downside of that move exceeds the upside.

Ukraine apparently still has 56 operational fighter jets. Adding another couple of dozen is probably less effective than other measures.

When this is all said and done, I suspect there are a lot of things we're doing covertly, which I do support.

I almost wonder if all the public talk of offering jets and then openly saying we decided against jets is to distract from some of the covert operations we're actually doing?

It seemed so strange to me that the discussion about jets was such a public one if it were something seriously being considered.
