The NFL Draft - It is simply NOT FAIR anymore..

Apr 29, 2022, 7:55 AM

It’s not fair.

What has happened in the last few years with certain teams AND now with the NIL situation from here on out - it is simply not fair.

You are going to have an unsettling and unfortunate situation where only a few teams, literally, will remain firmly entrenched at the top of the college football world. No one else can compete.

And, I am NOT a fan. Yes, I am a Georgia fan and I know 99.9% of UGA fans are thrilled by it. I find it nauseating and the beginning of the end for college football.

What we all witnessed this past season and culminating with the NFL Draft last night is just the beginning.

It’s not fair.

What does fairness have to do with the NFL? Professional football teams are huge businesses and the owners draft to improve their business, period.

Apr 29, 2022, 8:47 AM

What does fair have to do with it. The teams that draft the best are the teams that will improve .Of course it doesn't help if a team makes a dumb trade of a quality wide receiver to draft a line backer.
What was Green Bay thinking?

Can you tell me how this is different than is past years where there were only a few teams able to compete? Bama, Clemson, Okie, LSU, Ohio and UGA in a down year have been the only ones able to compete the past 10 years and it goes in cycles. FSU, Miami, Texas and USC were past teams who cycled out.

Frankly I have a different vision than yours. In the past teams like UGA were cheating their arses off. They benefited as most other teams played by the rules. Now that its legal, more rich schools will be going after the top talent. aTm, Texas, USC, Miami, Tennessee, Florida among others will enter the fray. I would even expect schools like UVA, SMU, UNC and others to enter on a limit basis to pick off one or two top guys each year.

In summary i believe the top talent will be spread among a greater number of teams other than the super cheating schools like Ohio, Bama and UGA which will create a more competitive landscape in CFB..

And guys like Deon Sanders will make a little splash talent-wise at Jacksonville St. They won’t compete for championships but they will use AFLAC NIL money and HBCU status to lure some players with pure talent that will end up in the draft.

Apr 29, 2022, 9:11 AM

are now getting the same type of "Draft Inflation" that Bama players have enjoyed for years in the draft.

Travon Walker at #1 Overall was a HUGE "over draft" to my way of thinking. Only time will tell. Sadly, I can use one of our own as a direct comparison. Clelin Ferrell was taken 4th Overall by the Raiders a few years ago. He has totally not performed anywhere near that draft slot's expectations.

From the Jaguars perspective, I suspect that Walker will be a bust at #1 Overall. Not that he may not turn out to be an adequate player. Butt, at #1 Overall, you should be a total game changer, perennial Pro-Bowling All Star.

Literally the best troll on T-Net. Go away. You have one NC since 1980. ONE! Your aren’t Bama, OSU, LSU etc… You might catch Clemson in the coming years if Kirby gets out the way and let’s pure talent win out. Stop acting like a dynasty. Want to slob over all things UGA. See your way to another board.

Apr 29, 2022, 10:52 AM

What are UGA fans "thrilled" about? The NIL, even in its short term broken form, will not change a single thing about UGA. You will continue to pay for the same types of players you have for years. Your signing classes won't change and you're not suddenly going to be sending more kids to the NFL. You'll be the same underachieving program you've been in the last several decades.

Congrats on having one year. Will it be a flash in the pan like LSU? Will the losses in the Georgia program set them back a few notches? Will UGA find a way to not have inexplicable losses along the way, and will you find a way to surpass Alabama and convince everyone that Kirby Smart won't get dumb as usual? Congrats on a nice season, but why do you feel like everything has suddenly changed for Georgia? What case can you make for suddenly being a playoff team after making it only once in 7 years prior?

Maybe it's more so the case where you ran into a perfect storm last year - with the number of NFL players, a steady QB, and Alabama being down relative to what they've been?

The NIL will change nothing fir UGA. UGA is gonna UGA.

Stop acting as if you're a long-term member of the club. UGA shouldn't slip as much as LSU did, but I'm thinking "flash in the pan" more than elite, playoff club member.

Guys, I’m just being honest. I am not being a troll

Apr 29, 2022, 11:17 AM

I have repeatedly come on here and praised Clemson and I like Clemson and the culture within the program. Dabo is genuine and a rarity today that I find refreshing. I love going to Clemson games and driving my Clemson buddies there.

I’m just saying that we are about to witness an absolute monopoly at the top of the college football world. And, yes, Georgia is at the top. Kirby will do whatever it takes to stay there, too. The money. The recruiting. The boosters. Literally everything. It will be a 20-25 year run.

That is just reality.

How many other schools have 1) The WILL to do what it takes and 2) THE MEANS BY WHICH TO DO IT

Period.

That is the issue/problem College football now finds itself in.

Last night what we all witnessed? Only the beginning.

All I am doing is speaking what many are fearful of but do not want to entertain the question being posed. College football is a mess and like in 10th grade Geometry we now have a “Given.” I’m the 1% of Georgia fans who is NOT happy about it.

That is what I mean when I espouse it is not fair.

I agree with you 100%. The guys who would do anything to win , now are given the permission to continue to do anything to win. It will be no different than the NFL, NBA, MLB where the "big" market teams have the resources to be competitive year after year.

It has not been fair in the past when schools who had the best facilities were ahead of all others and now, it is simple economics.

The college game has changed forever, unfortunately.

UGA is not at the top. Y’all finally got one this year and y’all are done. Your offense sucks. It sucked last year. Your defense carried you. They won’t be as good this year. And then starting after This year Texas and Texas A&M will be at the top. Lucky for you you won’t have to play them. Bama moving to the East will be playing them in the sec championship.

The thing people are missing is once others realize they don't have a chance then college football as we know it is over. Take your rival GA tech, how can they compete? They simply can't anymore. It's always been a lopsided rivalry but If things don't change why would they even play GA. The TV money will go down because so many people will lose interest in it.

Re: The NFL Draft - It is simply NOT FAIR anymore..

Apr 29, 2022, 7:27 PM

Why are you upset with the NFL draft?

The purpose of college football, including UGA, is to prepare the players for the NFL. Every player was recruited with the "sales pitch" including, "We will do a better job preparing you for the NFL than anyone else."

Kirby and his staff did a great job fulfilling that promise.

The NFL wants to get the best possible talent for their league. The NCAA wants to prepare their football players for a career in the NFL.

If you are ticked off and you would like for college football to be about playing for the glory of the school or getting a great education then there is an option. Find an Ivy League team, or a Div 3 team to root for.

I'm not a fan of the NFL. But, I don't blame them for the state of NCAA football.
