Don't all Clemson athletes make $5900+ a month now?

Apr 23, 2022, 12:52 PM

Everyone keeps saying all these players at such schools are paying $50k a year. Are we not paying basically the same? Or did I dream this or misread an article? I don't see where $50k is alarming if I read the article correctly.

But the 6-7 digit incomes just to sign at said school is just ridiculous. A guy that never played a down of college ball. What if that player is injured constantly like Ladson was? What is the return on the investment for buying a player? I think there will be some big blow-ups and nasty lawsuits in the near future.

deal last year. After September I don't recall seeing him in any ads on TV. It will be interesting to see if he re-appears this summer/fall.

Seems like some of the higher number contracts have requirements that have to be met year to year.

Didn't one QB transfer because he had to be starting by sophomore year and he wasn't sure he would be at his initial school?

No. Clemson athletes do not receive $5900/month.

They receive approximately that amount per YEAR.

Quit trying to stir people up with false info.

AND that's tied into academic progress as it should be!

Not stirring the pot, asked an honest question. Not everyone is a troll or trying to create lies. I said I may have misread but there is a $5900 annual academic payment. It's annual, not monthly, that was my mistake which is why I asked.

But continue stirring your pot as you say. Asking questions is how you get corrected.

You posted 3 weeks ago about this and were corrected then. Yeah, you’re stirring the pot…

Yeah, this is at least the second one (or maybe the same one) who recently posted that and was corrected.

You must be referring to this

Clemson is one of the few schools that have plans to make these academic bonus payments. Funny that some schools don't mind letting other people spend money on their athletes with NIL, but hesitant to spend their own, though I realize a lot of schools are on tight budgets.

Yes, this is it. Guess it is on an annual basis not monthly. I was surprised I hadn't heard more about the funds.

The football players also receive a monthly stipend which was close to $500 per month. I assume they still receive this which was to help players either travel home or help family come to games. Of course they use it however they like.

How times have changed! Players would get into trouble just for selling text books just a few years ago. Players couldn't accept a schollie if they had a viable YouTube acct making money. Now they can make millions just based on their star rating.

The game we loved is no longer the same. I hope the blow-up comes sooner than later that Dabo speaks of.

Jeeze, crazy world of college sports. It will never recover from this even if its reformed.

Schools buying players in the public eye. Never thought our loved sport would turn into a corrupt free for all. I hope SEC and another 10 schools go their direction of fake student athletes, pay their players, but then a group of schools to include Clemson go back to a true "Student-Athlete" type of program. Let players keep their SM money, let them earn their schollie and perks, let them play in an education first program and make them sign contracts. Make sure great players can't be bought by corrupt programs by signing strong contracts. Let college football retain some semblance of old school ball. Let the semi-pro programs battle and learn that their attendance and fandom declines as people don't want another NFL system at their school.

While those are high expectations l, hopefully we can dream about old school college football. D2 may have this working in their favor. Bur I dont want Clemson competing with schools in a different caliber like the T. Boone Pickens billionaires that can sway an entire recruiting class like what happened at aTm. Not even fair and Jimbo bows his chest like he is great and didn't pay for great players.
