Bowden vs. Brownell

There is NO comparison here. First of all upsets are much more frequent in basketball. To try and compare the 2 is nonsensical. Secondly T.Bowden was NOT a disciplinarian of any sort. He was just like his father. He would recruit and play a thug if he thought that might help him win a game. Brownell will not do that. Thirdly to compare CLEMSON basketball with CLEMSON football is totally unfair. There has always been a winning tradition in football somewhat. Granted we have had a half-dozen good teams in basketball but nothing like football. Finally basketball is played primarily in the current times mostly ( in the south at least) by players that prefer a more urban setting. This makes Clemson a much tougher recruiting sell. I have been following Clemson basketball for 50 plus years. It is VERY frustrating to lose ACC and NCAA games like last night and I hate it. I had however rather have a good solid program that produces good people than one that wins more with less than desirables. That's just me.

good people is the point and nice guys and I am certain I know Tommy Bowden better than you and he didn’t set out to recruit thugs. Early on had an assistant who was content to do so but Tommy Bowden put a stop to it and that assistant was taken off the road and soon left for other pastures.

He may have and I concede you may know him better than me but I do remember much more in issues with Bowden than Dabo today. As far as recruiting the ONLY ACC team that you can compare in basketball recruiting in that urban vs. rural environment is maybe VT. I concede they have outdone us in that area in basketball. Next years team can be as good or better though if Hall develops and Tyson can beef up a little inside.
