Ideal Clemson Bball Coach

Mar 26, 2022, 2:46 AM

With the success of former players as coaches this year, a dream hire would be Greg Buckner, who brings NBA experience, and one of the Clemson players of all time.

Except he has never been a HC, never been a college coach, never recruited a player and we don’t know if his coaching skill set would transfer to the college game. Other than that he is perfect except we don’t have an opening

You "know diddlysquat" and you are definitely not a capt.

"Our league is really, really good," Larranaga said. "Everybody recognizes Duke and Carolina, those teams are traditionally very very strong. But the other teams in our league are very talented, very deep, have great coaches. Very proud of being a part of the ACC." Clemson came close to beating all those 3 teams in the final eight. Brownell gets 2 and 3 stars mostly and and they improve over the years and year. Next year, like Miami this year, he will have an "Old team" and two burgeoning stars in Hall and Chase Hunter with tough "old" Hunter "Tyson" then tough rising big soph. men and some tough looking Freshmen, it ought to be a banner year.

Hope you right but I’ve seen this same movie play out for years. Guess what, everybody else is probably going to be better also.

It’s weird that in a hundred years no other coach has been significantly better than CBB at Clemson yet you think everybody else would be better. One of us is delusional

No coach in last 100 years, except 2 of the last 3...

Not much difference between OP and CBB in terms of resume. Winning percentage was very close but OP could not win a single game in the dance or at the dean dome. Barns was slightly better but got the heck out of town as soon as possible so we don’t know if his system was sustainable.

So two of the last three were not significantly better other than in your imagination.

You can try to explain away the accomplishments to yourself. The numbers don't lie. Those guys were able to get the program to a level Brownell hasn't been able to match.

Both Brownell and Purnell struggled in the ACC and NCAA tournaments. Each had a one year run, Purnell to the ACC championship game and Brownell to the Sweet 16. At least, Purnell built the program to a point that it consistently participated in the tournament.

Of course, if you average in Purnell's winning percentage during the rebuild, it's going to be as close to as bad as Brownell...

Barnes was better as you acknowledge. None have been great coaches by good basketball standards, but as you are constantly saying to standards are lower here.

Look at the t-rank and kenpom ratings. They say it all:

There most certainly should be! Apparently the Administration has intervened regarding Brownells employment status.
A friendly reminder and Warning, the last time a Clemson President got involved with a High Profile Clemson Coaching position, the Coach was Unnecessarily Fired and then 2 short years later the President moved on as well.
Both then and Now, the Administration is on
The Wrong Side

Agree that he would be a good one. He could get our former players back involved that don’t support Brownell
