Went deer hunting this afternoon -saw a few deer

Only one to come close enough for a crossbow was too small. Just before dark 2 huge armadillos came out of the bushes and I thought twice about wasting about 50 bucks for an arrow and broad head. Decided to go into stealth mode - lowered my bow on the rope - climbed down the ladder, walked up to 10 yards which I figured was as close as I could get - shot at the first one with my pistol and missed of course but that thing did not even flinch - just kept digging in the dirt. Since that didn't scare him I walked up and shot point blank then walked over to the other one and took him out too. Three 9 mm bullets were a lot cheaper than $50. Who is missing their pet armadillos (possums in the half shells)?

them up by the tails, I have done it. There were three of them rooting in a dry ditch behind my office building once while I was in my "post-retirement" job. One of the other guys went out first, and literally handed me one of the things. They are surprisingly heavy. But very calm.

Those things are a perfect example of migration over time.

They did not EXIST in South Carolina when I was growing up. They were a "western" phenomenon. (Texas, Oklahoma, etc.) From my understanding, some enterprising ones must have caught a ride here on a produce truck many years ago, and proliferated, as armored rats are wont to do. But, somehow "XXXXed like armadillos" just never caught on.

Damb! Not a bow hunter, and dambed if I will be with $50 arrows!?! I can buy a box of my 30-30 or 6.5 Creedmore for less than that. Wow!

Always grab them by the tail. Those claws will tear you up. P.S. They usually crap when you grab them so watch out.

Box of 3 crossbow bolts with metal nocks just went up close to $60 and a package of three mechanical broad heads about the same - with tax not quite $50 per shot but close.

Just checked all my trail cams this week and saw everything from a rat, squirrel, red birds, hawk, coyotes, turkeys, deer and bear but NO hogs or armadillos so far. I did see a dead armadillo in the grass median near the bridge at North Pine St. along 123 in Seneca.

I'm ok with hunting deer if you got the tags and it's done legally... but I don't understand killing animals just for the fun of it. Seems unnecessary and cruel, especially when the target poses zero threat. But go ahead and kill God's creation if that's how you get your kicks.
