NIL Ranking: Just for Kicks

I’m not sure how folks don’t think the NIL is game changer. It looks clear to me if you understand basic markets. Unfortunately, I believe the NIL puts Clemson at a huge disadvantage. We don’t have a huge wealthy Alumni base and we aren’t near a major market. It’s a shame this happened when it did, while we were at the top. Hopefully we can overcome this situation.
Clearly Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, Miami, Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Penn State and Oregon will be able to offer more market exposure (and opportunities) than little old Clemson. These schools and their donors are likely going to buy their way back to the top using NIL deals.
Even schools like UNC, Virginia, UCLA, Arizona, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Houston, Louisville, Nebraska and even South Carolina have some advantages over us in terms of alumni, market exposure or corporate alliances.
I hope I am wrong. I hope this isn’t the end of our run but money is the great equalizer and I’m concerned we don’t have enough of it.
Factoring wealth, alumni, fan base, market and corporate potential, here is my top 25 if I’m a kid looking to capitalize on the NIL. I’m sure I probably missed some and this order could be very fluid based on how much you value certain factors. If I’m honest with myself, Clemson is only in the Top 25 because we have been so good lately and have good national exposure. 10 years ago, we don’t make the cut. It will be interesting to see who else others might fit in the Top 25 and why.

Clemson’s too high.
Georgia Tech shouldn’t even be on the list.
UCLA is way too low. They suck now, but NIL is their ticket to recruiting greatness.

This is just one man’s opinion. I sincerely hope folks will back up their takes to stimulate the conversation.
I ranked GT based on potential. Their market is huge and I see potential for huge corporate dollars with companies like Coca-Cola and Delta. Atlanta is the place to be right now for many of these kids.
Younger folks may not remember, but you could make a case that GT was a better job than Clemson just 10-15 years ago.
Why do you think GT should be out and Clemson should be higher or lower? I could make a case Clemson should be outside the top 25.

I think Clemson should be lower because of small alumni base and too few millionaires. We will lose this NIL war in my opinion. Little ol’ Clemson will go back to being little ol’ Clemson. Blue Bloods will be Blue Bloods. The order will be restored.
I don’t think anyone cares about GT except GT. Actually being in “The ATL” won’t matter much. Athens is where the money will go.

I agree, the Bulldogs own Atlanta and the rest of the state. Plus, Kirby will push the envelope. Literally!
Still, I would rather be GT than Clemson in terms of the NIL opportunities. With a couple of breaks (think Joe Hamilton, Calvin Johnson), GT could be a monster. Atlanta is just too good a market. It’s basically the Black Capital of the New South. UGA will get the creme but there is a lot left for GT.

struggled with numerous losing season over the last several decades. Current Ga Tech students are not big supporters of their football team. Shoot, most of the students/fans are out of the stadium by the 3rd quarter. Atlanta is now a pro town, and could care less about the Yellow Jackets.

has been graduating thousands of science majors, as well as engineers and architecture majors over the last 100+ years. Many of these engineers and architects have their own companies. Many of my engineering friends came to Clemson from New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Not to mention all of the Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida Clemson alums.
The NIL does need some clarity, but Clemson has many business owners that could easily provide large NIL funding opportunities for our players in all sports.
Don't under estimate Clemson's alumni.

I’m a homer too but I think you are wearing orange colored safety goggles. Engineers earn a nice living but we are no match for the likes of Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas and many others.
No law school, no Medical school and a small enrollment. Our fan base is loud and proud, but most aren’t rich. Endowments are probably the best measure of alumni wealth.
UNC has an endowment of $5 BILLION. Texas has an endowment of $31 BILLION. Clemson’s endowment is just $775M. We fall below Iowa State, Cincinnati and Arkansas. Endowments don’t mean everything but if you factor in our small market and lack of corporate connections, you have to admit we are playing with fewer cards than the big boys.
I don’t worry about things I can’t control. It’s been a great run that I’ve enjoyed. Hopefully it can continue even if the cards are stacked against us and everybody like us. At least we aren’t going into this coming off a Belk bowl loss with Tommy Bowden as the head coach.

I think programs who are the best prepared culturally from top to bottom will have the biggest advantages.
This IS Clemson; we're the poster child for how a non-traditional team can consistently compete with blue bloods for recruits, awards & national titles.
And we're already vastly ahead of the game with NIL compared to the majority of the programs on your list. Before Miami, we had more deals than any other program.
I'm not optimist, but I can't see Clemson just vanishing back into obscurity just from NIL alone. In fact, I think it will continue to be just the opposite & we will thrive.

I think Clemson is too high. You only have them that high because of our recent success, and that’s fair, but overtime that success will be replaced by the real money kids can make at larger schools in larger markets. I hope I’m wrong, but I would guess it within five years Clemson will start to be on the decline because of the NIL.
I would replace Auburn with Stanford on your listing. Auburn is just like Clemson, except their success was several years back, and they haven’t had the same staying power as Clemson. Stanford on the other hand has an immensely wealthy alumni base, and they’re in the middle of Silicon Valley. Stanford sports have consistently performed at a high-level across-the-board for years. Stanford could become a dominant power in all sports including football. I would have them near the top 10.

Agree on Stanford. They should be on the Top 20, maybe Top 10. Location, Alumni and their Endowment is a crazy $30B. Auburn is similar to Clemson. Both should probably be outside the Top 25. I bumped them up because of the alumni passion for football and they have already been really good at buying players for years.
