He can always challenge it if they set this precedent. That it should be for owners as well.

He's already sat out for a year. The Browns can say it's cos he wanted a trade but that's ########, they were afraid of what the NFL would do if they played him.

Aug 10, 2022, 12:16 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: NFL commish speaks about push for season-long suspension of Deshaun Watson ]

What is upsetting the very most about this he said/she said case against DW4, is that two separate Grand Juries heard every shred of evidence those women had against DW4, and the Grand Jury will not hear any evidence that the accused has bc, the Grand Jury's job is to hear the evidence that the accusers have bc they are the ones with the complaint of being wronged by the accused.

People need to understand that the Grand Jury will "only" hear from accusers, period. If those women would've had video, or audio evidence where DW4 actually said, or did what those women said he did, without any doubt the Grand Jury would have indicted DW4, and a warrant would have been served on DW4, and he would have been arrested, and given a date for his day in court, and then he would have had a bond hearing and given a chance to post bond.

There was no visual video evidence, no audio evidence, nor any eye witness evidence against DW4, there was only the she said evidence, and the Grand Jury saw no cause to indicted DW4 with a case that couldn't be proven in a court of law.

With no Grand Jury indicted, the sleazy lawyer decided to try DW4 in the court of public opinion with his shyster lawyer talk to sway public opinion with full intent to force DW4 and his lawyers to settle out of of court, or face them in a civil suit where evidence isn't needed to find someone guilty. Just having a sleazy talented liar for your lawyer that is really good at coaching his clients on what to say, or not to say in a Federal civil suit is actually all you need to have a 50/50 chance at winning a Federal law suit. And all of those women knew what lawyer to use to extort from a young rich black man that will have strike one against him long before he enters the court room bc of the color of his skin, and bc of the color of his skin matched that of a black man, he only had a 30% chance of winning in a Federal law suit, and this grinds my gears above of just being angry bc I do believe that DW4 is the good guy in this case that's being taken advantage of bc he is a black man that is really good at playing NFL FB!!!

I do hope that DW4 learns from this, and he will find ways to protect himself from this kind of BS in the future bc, he will still have lots of what people want, his money, and they will lye, cheat, steal, and even murder him to get it!!!

yep a GJ only hears the prosecution stuff no defense stuff. So if they didn't indict either time what evidence is there? So what did he do that he is being punished for? If he did something I'm fine with punishment.

Re: TNET: NFL commish speaks about push for season-long suspension of Deshaun Watson

Aug 10, 2022, 8:24 AM

It’s nuts to say any of his problems are because DW4 is black? Certainly a racist point of view.
It would have been much worse if it was Trevor Lawrence or Matt Schaub.

It is only because he is rich, and participated in stupid and reckless behavior.
Almost as stupid as Michael Vick, but it cost Vick over $100 Million and jail time.
I agree the lawyers are scum, on both sides! DW4 should have settled at the beginning!
This is an expensive lesson for DW4, but he did not break the law and will not go to jail.
Stupid, risky behavior alone is not illegal….

Fortunately, DW4 is keeping his money and getting a second chance on the field.
He has an opportunity for redemption, and as one of my favorite Tigers, I wish him the best!
I hav met his mother and attended church with DW4, and I know he regrets his actions that caused his problems.
It is stupid to say race has played any role in his problems.
He was King of the City in Houston….

The grand jury part is over, though. Done! No jail EVER!

Aug 10, 2022, 10:13 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: NFL commish speaks about push for season-long suspension of Deshaun Watson ]

You're talking about what Deshaun may have done that could have sent him to prison; this part isn't about that, though.

There is NO EVIDENCE of assault, & the case is closed; Deshaun can NEVER do jail time for this! I'm thankful for that!

What we're talking about though, & what this part of Deshaun's story is about, isn't the allegations of forced happy endings in a private room; it's about what he did in HIS OWN words. We need to remember that.

Deshaun told the truth about the tiny towels, the way he hired these women as an NFL ambassador, the habit of groin requests, & perhaps most substantially to this part of the story, the Texans-branded non-disclosure agreements he made each of them sign.

Deshaun WILL come out on top of this. Yes, he's the highest-paid athlete in the history of the league, but I'm talking about his morale, leadership & spirit. He'll surprise us all with how he makes this right, he just can't do it until this final open case is closed (& I can't stand the waiting part).

There is no precedent

Aug 10, 2022, 10:17 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: NFL commish speaks about push for season-long suspension of Deshaun Watson ]

Part of the arbitration was about how there IS no precedent; virtually every punishment in the NFL regardless of the amount of violations or their severity is limited to 6 games. There is nothing that states any kind of punishment structure from the NFL, & that's one of the things the arbitrator was explicit about the NFL needing to change; she essentially said she had no fair ability or precedent to give him any more punishment than anyone else was getting for anything else, & implored the NFL to change it.

The tricky part to me is she said they need to change that precedent BUT because of it being the way it is now, the 6-game suspension should be it. In other words, the NFL should change its punishment policies & get extremely specific for future cases, but only AFTER this as it wouldn't be fair since Deshaun couldn't have possibly known he'd ever be punished more than 6 games.

Re: I Don't Remember Big Ben Sitting Out An Entire Season ---

I agree. This former Attorney General puppet will do what Roger wants...one full year and $10 Mil. The NFL needs to stop this charade and go ahead and announce Roger's punishment before the season starts. The Player's Asso. should keep a long memory that Robinson's decision was only a smoke screen and Roger does what the owners tell him what to do.

The court part is over. That part was about whether or not he'd go to jail. There was no evidence of assault, so the case is closed; Deshaun can NEVER go to prison for this!

The NFL part in this story, though, is about what Deshaun himself said he did & how it affected the league, like the way he hired the women personally, the tiny towels, the groin requests, & using a Texans-branded NDA, etc.

Re: TNET: NFL commish speaks about push for season-long suspension of Deshaun Watson

Aug 9, 2022, 10:15 PM

What am I missing here-
The NFL (ie: The League) and the NFLPA AGREE to have a female judge examine ALL of the evidence in this case and make a judgment based on her experience in these legal matters. And so she renders her decision.
End of story.
But now Roger Goodell representing “the League” decides that the NFL was JUST KIDDING when they AGREED to have this judge hear this case and rule on it.
Is that what’s happening here ….

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly, it makes no sense at all!

Aug 9, 2022, 10:58 PM

What's the deal? Every single shred of information was uncovered, investigated, and ruled on by two grand juries, plus a HIGHLY qualified and experienced ex Federal, female judge reviewed it ALL,... and now Goodell knows best?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Exactly, it makes no sense at all!

Aug 10, 2022, 10:03 AM

I love Coach Butler, but yikes man, I'm not sure you can say that here outright.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In the interest of making sense,

Aug 10, 2022, 10:02 AM [ in reply to Exactly, it makes no sense at all! ]

So two things:

1.) the grand jury stuff was for assault & there was no evidence, no video, etc. Whether or not he actually assaulted anyone is incidental & he's essentially innocent & therefore CANNOT do any jail time.

2.) the NFL part is about what Deshaun himself said he did & the things they do have evidence of, things like the way he hired them as an NFL ambassador, the tiny towels thing, the groin requests, & certainly the Texans-branded NDA's.
Crucially, & I think this is the part many are ignoring or didn't notice, is the judge in this case was explicit about having no means to punish him further than anyone else in the league as there is no precedent or procedure outright, & she just as explicitly recommended a stronger punishment but can't since the precedent doesn't exist for anything more than 6 games regardless of virtually any crime outright.

They listened to her, but perhaps they shouldn't be doing it NOW; she made it sound like they should change the policy but only AFTER Deshaun serves the harshest penalty she was able to give, 6 games.

Anyway you slice it, this is a sad, and expensive, situation. Despite anything he did in the past, Deshaun will forever be known, by the vast majority of people, for this situation.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Maybe

Aug 10, 2022, 9:55 AM

For many, they'll never forgive him, sure.

But NO punishment will fix that.

The only thing that will is Deshaun's own voice and actions, & I believe that's exactly what he'll do eventually (he can't do anything until the final case is closed).

He'll come out on top of this a leader & perhaps an advocate against this kind of stuff if we've learned anything from his past behavior about being a leader of his morals, know what I mean?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wonder if Deshaun and his legal team will sue Goodell/NFL

How? I mean, it's not slander; this part of the story is about Deshaun's own words & admission, know what I mean?

Plus remember our guy is the most highly-paid athlete in the history of the sport; I don't think he cares enough to sue his company back even if he was lying (which I don't believe he was), but instead wants to move on and move forward from this as a leader once the final case is closed.

Those are the words of the judge, though, too, & as a result of Deshaun's own words outright, know what I mean?

I don't think Deshaun thought he was doing anything wrong, or certainly not to the degree we know now. I sincerely believe he's a good person & a leader, & can be that again some day very soon, sincerely.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just one more case

Aug 10, 2022, 9:46 AM

There's just ONE CASE left before Deshaun can get out in front of this.

Then he'll finally be able to tell he all in his own words what happened, why he thought it was OK & what he thinks about it now, & what he's going to do to rise up as the leader we know him to be & make this right in the best way he can.

The worst part of this story is almost over. Deshaun Watson is still going to be able to surprise us with the kind of person he is, & I look forward to it.

But she didn't like her own decision, either

Aug 10, 2022, 11:58 AM

Remember, crucially she said the NFL should be able to have a different penalty but essentially her hands were tied at the standard 6-game suspension. She would if she felt she could, so to speak.

She also said they shouldn't change it FOR this case, but in response to it, so it's a bit of a catch-22.

Look, playing or not playing football games won't change anyone's mind about Deshaun.

13 games, 13 months, 13 million, NOTHING will change people's minds more than Deshaun's own voice & actions.

For now, he still can't use either as there's one remaining open case. But since the NFL's penalty really doesn't matter, I'm OK with it being zero games, in all sincerity. I understand the judge's suggestion the NFL should change the policy AFTER this case, too.
