Yes, Tony Elliott deserves the blame for the

Sep 5, 2021, 4:45 PM

Atrocious offensive display from last night.
Pace - 4 carries
Shipley - 4 carries
Dixon - 1 carry
Uiangalelei - 14 carries (7 sacks and 3 scrambles)

I recall maybe 3 called qb runs and 1 busted play where DJ ran behind Shipley for a short gain. That equates to 13 run plays and most of those were RPOs, which puts our OL at such a disadvantage bc they don’t know if they are run blocking or pass blocking.

13 RUN PLAYS!!! None of which were called when we were 1st and goal from the 6. And as soon as we actually had an effective 10 yd gain on the ground, (thank you Lyn-J) guess how many more times we went back to that RB…ZERO!!!

UGA kept dropping 7&8 into coverage but we refused to try to make them pay by making an effort to RUN the ball (and I don’t mean via the RPO). You want to know why we struggle getting the top OLine recruits, bc they want to go play where they will be prepared for the NFL. I don’t hear about the RPO game dominating the NFL. A sliding board in the operations complex is not luring those guys away from a promising NFL career.

Instead of attacking what the defense was giving us, TE decided to double down on our passing game, putting the outcome of the game in the hands of a QB who all night was as elusive as a 3-legged wildebeest trying to escape a pride of lions on the discovery channel. Forget doubling down, he tripled down. We couldn’t move the ball through the air, so we decided to keep throwing it, 47 pass plays compared to just 13 run plays!!!

This game was reminiscent of the second half of the 2020 NC game with LSU where Ettienne was picking up 8-9 yds a clip, and then only had 2 or 3 rushes in that 2nd half. For $2,000,000/yr, I expect a balanced, unpredictable game plan with the ability to adapt as a game progresses and the defense’s strategy is revealed. The last 2+ seasons, Tony has failed to produce this type of game plan when we lineup up against teams with similar talent. He is being out-coached now on a regular basis when we face other elite teams.

Either our OC needs to change, or we need to change our OC.

Nobody's heart would be broken if he got a head coaching job at Air Force at this stage. That said, he might improve.

Dabo would just promote Brandon Streeter instead of going out and getting a top offensive mind, and the offense would look exactly the same. Dabo also would try to call plays himself, and then the offense would look even worse.

Clemson/UsuC game when Reggie M was clicking off runs and they left him on the bench at the end of the game. Lyn-J got one carry for 12 yards....WTH ?

Is TE becoming Billy Napier ?

At a more fundamental level our offensive identity has slowly gone away since Morris (gasp!) left. I'm really not sure what we are anymore. I think talent, QB, RB, WR, masked this for many years and it was also a slow process.

We had no identity before Morris. He brought an identity, you knew clemson when you saw it even if we didn't have a uniform on. We maintained it after he left but gradually year by year it went away.

Do you ever see guys in motion anymore? Do you ever see Jet sweeps anymore? Do you ever see the same route trees we were running? Remember the TE used to shuffle a lot?

I have no idea what the system is we are running now.

We never tried a little shuttle pass at the goal or anywhere else.

ou QB hands the ball off he holds his arms straight out for the longest time. Anybody in the world can see where the play is going. And this has been going on for three or four years. What ever happened to slight of hand. It actually looks funny.

Sleight of hand.***

That’s what you do in RPO…
