Anybody on here have English Retrievers for pets?

Jul 10, 2018, 4:46 PM

Been wanting to get one for a while.

Anyone have a breeder they suggest in the ATL Metro area, SC (Upstate), (eastern) TN or Western NC area?

Re: Anybody on here have English Retrievers for pets?

Jul 10, 2018, 5:02 PM

No.

English Retrievers. They're basically a Golden Retriever with a few small differences

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Correct....an English Retriever is basically just a solid

Jul 10, 2018, 5:42 PM

white Golden Retriever.... same wonderful temperament, smart, possibly the greatest family dog ever bred.

Call the local AKC club. They should have at least one

person who knows reputable breeders around the country.

Re: Call the local AKC club. They should have at least one

Can't help you but I had a customer that had one and they are absolutely beautiful animals. Quite pricey as well.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, I'm finding that out now

Jul 10, 2018, 5:15 PM

Of course I'd want one of the most expensive breeds...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My parents have 2 now

Jul 10, 2018, 5:26 PM

And had 2 before that. Great dogs. There's a breeder in Statesville, NC that they've gotten their most recent 2 from. Not sure of the name but they are pricy for sure.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just found that adopting from Turkey can actually be less

Jul 10, 2018, 5:41 PM

expensive.

Thanks for the lead. I'll do some research into that area and see what I come up with.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would think adopting turkeys would definitely be the way

Jul 10, 2018, 6:57 PM

to go. And plenty of time to fatten them up before the holidays.

Good luck.

Adopting turkeys would definitely be the way

Jul 10, 2018, 9:15 PM

I saw two on RC Edwards Road in Central on Sunday near the Middle School. Didn't have any tags on them. don't know if they had microchips or not.

I wonder why all the “adopted” ones always turn out white and the wild ones are dark? I’d get a female if I’z you cause you might end up with a real loud gobbling Tom and that’d be annoying. Neighbors might not like that.

The Carolina Foothills AKC show (free) is coming up and will be a great chance to pick up info from friendly breeders across the US. Located at the TD Convention Center,

"The Public Is Welcome to Attend Our Dog Shows

The dog shows are free to the public each day. It's a wonderful and inexpensive way to entertain the whole family.

The shows are held each day, Thursday through Sunday, July 26 through 29, 2018. Each day is a separate show, so you can attend any day and see a complete show.

These shows are among the largest on the east coast with an average entry of about 2,000 dogs each day. The dogs hail from over 40 states from California to New England, along with a scattering of dogs from foreign countries. They include popular breeds, such as ...

Breeds are judged at different times in different rings every day. To get the most from the show it's best to "know before you go." If you are interested in certain breeds, you should check the schedule for the day you plan to attend. The complete judging program will tell you how many of that breed are competing and at what time and I'm which ring."

Leave for Maine that day or else I probably would have gone up to the show. Thanks for the info though.

I was incorrect on Duncan, it is Moore, SC. The breeder is UpcountryGoldens.com and we picked up a great puppy from there for our son who is now nearly 4 months old.

Yellow or Chocolate lab is second choice.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Go Choc Lab

Jul 12, 2018, 1:50 PM

Personally I would go with Yellow. One of the best dogs I have ever had was a female Yellow Lab. Also I have seen a lot of chocolate labs that were very nasty. I have a buddy who spent A LOT of money on a chocolate and from a pup took it to work just about every day. People would come and go through his office every day but as the dog got older he became more and more aggressive until one day he actually bit someone. Needless to say he was found a home to be given to where the dog was used more as a guard dog than pet.

Goldens

Jul 12, 2018, 9:57 AM

by another name... most of the goldens you see in Europe are much lighter in color than many of the lines here.

if you want a golden, i can get you in contact with several breeders.

we just got a puppy from a breeder in Duluth GA

here are our 5-and-10 year olds:
