Swinney calls on Clemson fans to "keep the faith"

Clemson is some rare territory for the program lately under Dabo Swinney, but the Tigers' head coach is hoping the Clemson faithful has some longer memories. His Tigers are underdogs in the regular season for the first time since 2016 going to No. 23 Pittsburgh this weekend (3:30 p.m./ESPN). Sitting Read Update »

I am as well . Clemson University is my Alma Mater and I will support them if they don't win a game . Dabo is a problem solver and deep down he knows he has a problem on offense . I know he will fix it maybe not this year but next year and the years to come he will . Pitt is going to be a real challenge on the road and they will want to make this game a statement game for their potential CFP run . Hope our defense can slow them down and the offense can score more than 20 points . GO TIGERS !

All in with Clemson and Dabo!!

Just look around at the chaos at other schools. Dabo knows!

LSU is a train wreck now, and they fired Coach O after their best win of the season. It will take years to recover in Baton Rouge. Only 18 months ago, we lost to LSU and they were 'the greatest'. A year earlier we beat the 'Best College Team of All Time' (Alabama), in a blowout. We have the same coaches, our players have to develop, and it is just happening slowly....

We will get better every week, but we are not a top 4 team right now. We can get there, but it will take a lot of improvement.

Go Tigers, Beat Pitt!!!

We can't forget what Dabo has done for our football program over the last 13 years. Shoot, Bama lost to a two loss Texas A&M this season, and could easily lose to UGA in the SEC Title game.

Absolutely, I've seen much worse days/seasons than we're experiencing right now, and I hung tough back then, and I'll hang tough now, but that doesn't say that I have to like what we've seen so far this season, especially with all the talent that's on this team. Go Tigers, All In!!!!

Yep, Dabo ..this season is on you. We did better
with less talent a few years ago...So if the defense

to give Willie Korn down at Coastal a look for the
OC. Running a football team is just like running a

Calm down Karen. Pretty sure Dabo doesn't reed the comment section of Tigernet - but based on the national animosity towards the dismal offense, I'd say each and every fan has the right to view their opinion to a coach who's making 93 million off it's donor and fan base.

There are many more opportunities to go and play. Make no mistake the pressure is on him. He has too many former players with zero experience it's going to cost him!!

Bingo. I give you this prize.

Firing people is easier than telling them the business is not going to make it.

Great line right there and so very true. Keeping people that are not getting the job done ensures that failure will eventually happen.

They were not getting it done last year with the offensive line and were beginning to fail the year before that. Then comes some inexperienced players and they cannot cover up for the poor performance of coaches that are being outmatched on a daily basis in the CFB world.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Swinney calls on Clemson fans to "keep the faith"

Oct 19, 2021, 12:28 PM

It wasn’t just the offensive line it was the whole offense slipping last year. The offense was disjointed and predictable but Trevor Lawrence made up for that against lesser talent. Couldn’t make up for it against better teams. Jeff Scott made a huge difference and TE just isn’t the guy.

No, He doesn't need to show "me "anything, but he needs to show the administration, the Athletic Department, the families of the recruits he brings in and to the fan base( and that is me) that for that 3 million dollars a year he is making he can fix this problem.
The problems that this team is having this year are no different than the problems Brad Brownell is having, or that Jack Leggett had. Jack is gone, some of the fans want Brad gone and if Dabo doesn't fix the problems ,it may not be long before the Athletic Director might have to re-evaluate things and show Dabo the door.
Think I wrong. Check out what happened Sunday at LSU Sunday.

Maybe we here on T-net don't have the pull and power we think we might, but college football is a business, it's all about the $$$$. It's one thing to have a down year, but this has been a drop off the cliff. The problems are obvious to even the most casual fan. So yeah, Dabo needs to show everybody something. Because, if some of these big money donors get disgruntled and threaten to pull their funding, changes will be made and maybe some that Dabo doesn't like.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson fans "keep the faith" by demanding excellence...

Oct 19, 2021, 9:01 AM

And that Excellence starts with the head coach making the hard choices even in midseason. When it's plainly evident that both the head coach and the offense coach have made their basket so small it's all about one guy at quarterback that's not a sign of Excellence.

The great defense we have only secures games when the offense does it's part to score enough points. And let's be honest, that only happened one game this year against a 3rd tier team. The ACC is 1st tier, and Pitt this year is better than most years. This means pulling out all the stops, and NOT being vanilla, and not being afraid or worried. Nor begging the fan base to keep the faith when as HC you know you must pull out those stops, and stop giving excuses, and stop glad handing sarry-eyed fans.

Hope is a great thing. But hope must be tempered with not being stiffnecked about changing dynamics to get the job done. Which was what hiring Dabo was all about those many years ago. Making the changes to make excellence a character trait of Clemson.

I would trade 2021 Dabo in for 2011 Dabo in a heartbeat. Because 2011 Dabo was making the choices that led to excellence rather than keeping the status quo that kept Clemson in the dolldrums under Bowden.

This fan supports the 'Clemson Tigers' long term. Not 'Dabo Swinney' not 'Tony Elliott' not 'DJU' who will come and go over the years. They can fail utterly or be heroes, but the 'Clemson Tigers' will remain my team.

Maybe its time for Dabo and the 'personnel' fans to remember they are only part of the long traditions of Clemson. If you want a legacy of excellence then be excellent by doing the thing which lead the Clemson Tigers to it!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Swinney calls on Clemson fans to "keep the faith"

Oct 19, 2021, 9:04 AM

I am still behind Clemson, but like all of us fans I have genuine concerns. In this world of immediate media content a good program can become a bad program virtually over night One bad season, one wrong recruit choice at a key position, and a college football program can be a decade in recovery due to loss of recruits.

Again, while I hope for the best, the coaching staff at Clemson is in aggregate the highest paid football coaching staff in the nation. High expectations and great results are warranted. Dabo Swinney needs to stop hiding behind what great kids all his players are and start taking responsibility for the fact this the extremely overpaid coaching staff is not getting the job done.

I don't blame any of the players at this point. I know alot of heat has been applied to D.J., but perhaps D.J. is not getting the coaching he needs. We have seen it in other places where the difference between a good qb and a great qb is coaching. same for offensive lines and wide receivers. Coaching at all levels on offense is falling short and it is very obvious. The young men are all top notch recruits so the only explanation is coaching. until the staff stops hiding and takes it on the chin it will only get worse.

These posts bewilder me. We’re 4-2. We lost to the #1 team by 7 points, and in a double OT game. Our wins we’re pretty and could have been losses, but they weren’t. We need help, but we still could get to the ACC championship game. But even if we don’t, the world isn’t coming to an end. This year is long from over and the end point has not been decided. We need to get behind our Tigers and stop this wooh is me nonsense. These players want to win. They expected to be winners when they signed on at CU and they work every day to accomplish that goal. Let’s get behind them and stop this bickering and negativity. Go Tigers.

Re: LOL....another SPIN job for DJU's inconsistencies.

Oct 19, 2021, 4:49 PM

It's a spin job on '2 best games'. From a QB performance standpoint the BC game was a disaster. Of the incomplete passes, most were DJU throwing them away a HUGE amount of time.

They got 2 weeks to prep for Syracuse and the best they managed was he didn't throw as many balls away. But he definitely wasn't very good at pinpointing several long balls to Ross.

It's true that DJ's not the only problem, but he's causing more problems besides his bad passing. The 'vanilla' play calling is more for him than the receivers or OL. I have a feeling he simply can't put up more effort than we've seen from him this season. He can't make that next step that separates average QBs from great and excellent QBs. He was expected to be better than we've seen, even if not as good as TL and DW or TB. But I think it's clear whatever the issue surrounding him boils down to, for the team the best move is to give TP the reins for a couple of quarters to see if he can spark the offense from near dead ashes to a roaring fire.

Re: TNET: Swinney calls on Clemson fans to "keep the faith"

Oct 19, 2021, 5:51 PM

I read these comments on here and if I were most of you I would be ashamed to say I'm a Clemson fan the way you are acting. Dabo has brought more notoriety, higher caliber athletes, more championships be it ACC or National than any other coach in Clemson history. All the wins he has brought to the program, you want to blast him for two losses. One to a potential national champion who didn't score an offensive touchdown on us, and the other to a top 25 team. I see a bunch of hypocrites that wanted other teams in the ACC to step up and challenge Clemson to make us look better, but then you want to cry when it happens and we take a loss. That's like saying you love your wife or husband until they make two bad meals and then they have to go. The same ones who are screaming for his head are probably the same ones who didn't want him hired in the first place. As far as hi having to answer to Iptay donors and fans buying football tickets, they were doing that before he was the coach and you all would still donate and buy tickets if you are true Clemson fans. Dabo has encountered problems with the team before and has always fixed them. All across the football landscape this year, nothing is as anyone could have predicted. We haven't completely fallen apart like another "Tiger" team did immediately after winning a national title. So, for all you couch coaches that never played football except in the backyard, why don't you leave the negativity away from the team because they have enough pressure on them as it is. I don't care how many stars these kids had coming out of high school, they are still young men who make mistakes, succumb to pressure, but have the opportunity to grow and learn. Be true Clemson fans and give them that opportunity. It's remarks like most of these I see on Tigernet are the reason Dabo would have them stay off social media. I am all in!!! Let's all be as well.

DJHOTPOET I agree with you I think people forget what clemson was like before Dabo took over and it took him Tim to build everything but after he did he started bringing in more 4 and 5 star recruits totally changed the atmosphere and brought in the money to do a major overhaul to the whole complex help build softball field and with other help started different things like paw journey to help better some of these young men. So I'm like you I think he has a plan and I trust him and for all the nay sayers tell me another coach and team that wins their division every year and goes to CFP every year not many so if we miss one I don't think it's the end of the world ??. But if anyone wants before they play Pitt this weekend I'll make a bet that Clemson finishes 10-2 for the year lol

Everyone needs to calm down. We are blessed with a great coach with true character leading our program and I have no doubt he will work through this. Its foolish and short sighted to think there won't be ups and downs. The college game has changed and our program will adapt as necessary. As a Clemson grad from the early eighties I witnessed the first National Championship in Miami and the highs and lows before and after. We have a unique University and the right man is running our program. I have 100% confidence in Dabo and will remain "all in".
