when i asked her why the bird's nest soup was considered a delicacy,a japanese friend told me that it was because a particular species of bird used their saliva(?) to construct the nests,and that's gave the soup it's distinctive flavor.needless to say,i politely declined the offer to try.

our japanese friend did give us a few recipes which we treasure to this day.one of which is egg rolls.t-mail,if you want it.excellent food.she would literally make banquets for my wife and i and she and her husband.it's also an insult if you don't eat a lot.the night she made teriyaki short ribs,i thought i died and went to heaven.the only negative i have about her is that she's married to a die-hard leghumper fan.
