Y’all Georgia folk, know who our receivers are, Now who are yours?

Aug 12, 2021, 6:53 PM

We got y’all beat on Wide Receivers you gotta admit

So who Georgia, will y’all have catching balls from JT Daniels?

Careful for what you wish....... UGA can do a lot of damage without success by their WRs.... their TEs can hurt us badly, if our past secondary coverage is still the same. We are (were) vulnerable over the middle on slants and seam fly routes from slot receivers and TEs, so let's hope we have that corrected.

If we do too much stunting/blitzing using the safeties and CBs, we will be burned by the TEs.

The game will depend on what we do in the trenches, both on offense and defense.

We were forced to use a lot of backside help, stunts and blitz’s in order to get pressure on the QB the last two seasons because we didn’t have the tools up front in the defensive line. Two years ago neither the size or the depth was there after the departure of the power rangers. Last year we had good size and athleticism but it was all very green.

Have you been paying attention ?

Re: Y’all Georgia folk, know who our receivers are, Now who are yours?

Aug 13, 2021, 8:02 AM

Yes, I have been paying attention - which is why I said what I did about too much involvement of the LBs and safeties in blitz packages. Your expression of our need to do so in order to get pressure on the QB only supports my opinion and is the "cause" of my "effect".

I said The game will depend on what we do in the trenches, both on offense and defense.

And I said If we do too much stunting/blitzing using the safeties and CBs, we will be burned by the TEs.

I stand by both statements. Whether we do too much blitzing is because we don't get good QB pressure from the front or because we just over-blitz and leave holes in the middle doesn't matter - the result will be the same...... TEs will likely be successful if UGA can handle pass-pro.

His point is. We. Won’t. Have. To. Blitz. As. Much.

Re: Y’all Georgia folk, know who our receivers are, Now who are yours?

Aug 13, 2021, 9:46 AM

I know what his point is and agree with it in its simplicity. However; my point considers his expressed notion that GA doesn't have good WRs. That may be true, but if we get cocky and think we can ignore the WRs and bring the blitz too often, their TEs will make us pay for it. They have very good TEs that can exploit any holes we leave in the secondary.

I do think the following that seems to agree with prevailing opinions:

* Our front 4 and front 7 groups are improved over the past 2 years and will be able to get more pressure on the QB and do a better job of stopping the run, which will lessen the need to bring down the secondary.

* Venables will have a good game plan.

* Venables has done a lot of reflection on last year's cause of defensive performance and will be cautious.

I just don't think the outcome of the game can be assigned to a comparative of each team's WRs..... there's a lot more to football than that..... and too many ways to skin a cat (or dawg) to rely on that belief as a game plan without recognizing the danger that lurks if the strategy doesn't survive contact with the enemy.

Here's a film breakdown that shows

Aug 13, 2021, 11:21 AM

what happens when we have to bring the secondary up to support the front and the part the opponent's TEs play in our demise as a result:

https://youtu.be/xTMNr4hCUoY

Again, I do think we'll be better along the D-front, but we'll have to be if we expect to win the game, because UGA has a very good O-line. Just having an advantage in WR quality/depth will not be enough to win the game. If we get greedy and try to smother UGA by bring up the secondary too often, the video above shows what has happened in the past and what will happen on Sept. 4th.

UGA's TEs are just too good to let us get away with it over and over without making us pay for it.

We need to play a solid front 7 in preferably a 4-3 and rely on the secondary to cover the WRs without help and the LBs and safeties to cover the TEs. The front 4 will have to get penetration so we can leave the LBs and secondary in position to protect against the TEs and the run.

This will not be a game to get cute with the D..... it will require good old snot-nosed football effort.

Aug 12, 2021, 7:12 PM

Yeah, Clemson has the edge at WR. Georgia's advantages- RB and Oline. I dont know much about Clemson's TEs but Washington and Bowers for UGA are pretty good. I'd call the QB position a push.

Aug 12, 2021, 7:51 PM

How do you call that a push? Based on games played? Miss St, USUC, Mizz and Cinci. 1231 yards, 10 Td’s, 2 Int’s. No gauntlet even for the lowly ACC champs. This is a seasoned QB in Daniels vs a true freshmen that racked up over 400 yards on a top 5 team on the road with a hurt shoulder in an ROP offense.

Show me your data or GTFO, for real.

You can be critical of the teams Daniels played last year but don't forget his 2600 yards as a freshman at Southern Cal.

Daniels has a career 321 completions on 516 attempts to Uiagalelei's 78 completions on 117 attempts.

None of that makes Daniels better but Uiagalelei's resume consists of one really good game. What was his other win...Boston College?

It's a push and that's being generous to Clemson.

SoCal? We’re talking West coast ball right? Ok…And he’s a pro-style QB, right? It’s not a push. That’s generous.

Re: Y’all Georgia folk, know who our receivers are, Now who are yours?

Yeah, 2600 yards while playing on the west coast. You can suggest it doesn't count since it's west coast ball, but its 2600 yards DJ doesn't have.

Re: Y’all Georgia folk, know who our receivers are, Now who are yours?

Aug 12, 2021, 9:41 PM

I didn’t suggest it. All things considered, he didn’t break the bank at SoCal and he didn’t blow anyone away in his SEC debut. There are 5 maybe 8 teams in the country that are relevant. One of our QB’s played one of those teams and flourished. The other is about to debut. I’ll take my QB’s cred over yours.

I trust the tutelage under Lawrence a little more than that clown Jake Fromm. Georgia fans don’t understand we’ve had the last two number one quarterbacks coming out of high school. I guess not all of them follow recruiting. You don’t have to go back far to look at the great Jake’s film highlights against the mighty Cincinnati Bearcats. I wasn’t impressed. Trailing 21-10 4th qtr? Painful to watch.

Because that's sooo much worse than trailing that powerhouse Boston College at home 28-10 late in the half.

You generally have a pretty good logical perception of things when you arent deliberately trolling to get the fans riled up but you are off on this one man...You have no clue what you are about to see at the QB position here from Clemson...DJ shouldnt be a silver lining for UGA in the predictions of this game...Dude is the real deal...

If they run two TE sets with Washington and Bowers it could be trouble....They will most likely run behind Bowers because hes the better blocking TE and its not even close...UGA deathly depends on TE blocking especially when they line up in the I...Which is what I suspect they will doing alot of to try and run the ball down our throat to start off...

Lots of inaccuracies here.

I think you meant Washington is the better blocking TE? Or even more probably you meant FitzPatrick? Right? Bowers is a true FR that is best know for his receiving prowess not his blocking?

UGA hasn't lined up in the "I" in ages. There isn't even a fullback on the team. Not sure you've been paying attention. Like most offenses, UGA runs out of 11 personnel most of the time now and will mix in some 12 and 10 too. You might see some 21 if Cook or McIntosh is being used in the slot, but never will it be an "I" formation.

Ngata was a 5-star according to Rivals, but a 4-star according to 24/7 and ESPN (and the 24/7 composite).
Ladson was a 4-star in all three.
