#1 SDE out of HS.
#1 player in FLA.
Consensus 5-star.
30 offers to every major program in the country.
Comes to Clemson...
Stats decline each year since freshman (link: https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/_/id/4360304/xavier-thomas)
Injuries, "covid/strep throat", depressed about weight gain, almost quits team.
Gets a low grade from NFL scouts so he's coming back. Is he expected to make any difference this season or are fans just happy that he offers experience/depth?

he told me that each year you get much much better and that experience is super important for that position. He said would lick his chops when he was a senior and had a freshman or sophomore OL in front of him during a game.
XT is going to be all business in what is basically a contract year for him. I think he'll be a problem for any underclassman he comes up against.

He has struggled, but he looked pretty good last year, but not as good as he is capable of producing.

By my recollection this will be the first time he participates in off-season workouts with 100% health. Yes 2022 could be a monster year.

I think most hope he has a Dodd season and lives up to his ability. He has an upside but I think he will have to be honest with himself about his strengths and weaknesses as a DE and physically so that he can be a much better player from play by play production standpoint. He cant live on a spectacular play here and there. He has to set the edge to make the defense work play by play. Dodd figured that out his senior season and got drafted. Cle Missile figured it out his Soph year and got drafted. Setting the edge is probably more important than a sack in the overall game scheme.

Our D Line is going to be silly. Ruke and TDJr already cause enough chaos for O-lines before our ends rotate talent at will. Eerily reminiscent of the "Power Rangers" IMHO. I think there will be plenty of highlight reels for all these fellas, including XT.

XT has an excuse. He was a freshmen all american. Then dealt with injuries and concussion issues his sophomore year. Then fought depression/covid/weight issues. It only takes one great year. I believe XT is going to put everything into this season knowing there is absolutely no do over. XT has dealt with issues but has hardly been a bust like Coots try and and claim. Coots just show theur lack of football knowledge when they talk about XT. There is one thing that will make XT a forever Tiger All American though, he ABSOLUTELY H8S the Lamecocks.

He was very good this year and has the potential to be one of the best DEs in college football next year if he stays healthy and works hard this offseason. Good health plays the most important role in that though.

Unlike many who have attacked this post, I think this is very good question and it’s backed up by facts. XT was solid last year but let’s face it, he has not been as dominant as many of our stellar DEs in recent years. I believe he has much more to show us and am excited that he’s coming back. I truly believe if he plays to his abilities he could be as good at the position as we’ve seen at Clemson. Pulling for him to take it to the next level.
Why can’t we discuss legit questions without the bs coot name calling crap?

XT had 18 (yes, count 'em ... 18) QB pressures in 2021 and added 4.5 sacks, despite missing 2 games with injury.
Anyone watch the Cheez-It bowl? XT was beating the IA State O-Tackle like a rented mule and chasing IA State QB Brock Purdy (a darn fine QB) into Purdy's worst game of the year.
XT only needs to have a largely injury-free year in 2022 to show his stuff. I'm betting that XT puts up Jermaine Johnson type stats in 2022 ... or better.
Oh yeah ... likely top 10 NFL draft pick Jermaine Johnson (the FSU super-star D-End) had, in his first two years of college FB, only a modest 6.5 sacks while playing only 16 combined games ... and only 7 games in his 2nd year. No one, and I mean NO ONE, would have viewed J.Johnson as a top NFL DE prospect if he had not (finally!) the fully-healthy year.
Of course, in 2021 (when he played all 12 games for FSU), J.Johnson had 11.5 sacks and 12 QB hurries.

I think you will see major improvement along the entire d line with coach Eason taking over. There fundamentals and leverage will be much improved just wait and see.
