X, Y and Z

Feb 11, 2022, 7:56 AM

This whole basketball situation is starting to feel more like the result you get when a bean counter is involved. The lack of passion throughout the program is disturbing. Somebody in the athletic department has determined basketball brings in X dollars and if we were mildly successful it would bring in Y dollars. It would take Z dollars to get us from X dollars to Y dollars so there is no return on investment and we will stay right where we are in the bottom 3rd of what has become a spectacularly mediocre conference that once used to be something.

Preparing for a Calculus test? If not it is too early for word problems. Lol!

The downward slide of the whole ACC is even more puzzling

than where Clemson is as a BB program. For ALL the North Carolina schools, basketball used to be THE sport on campus. Now, Wake and State are gone into obscurity, and even UNC and Dook are not dominant nearly like they used to be.

I put it onto the "One and Done" rule as to the reason the whole league went down. Schools like Kentucky went out and flat lobbied for the One and Doners to come there, and it reaped immediate results for all. The ACC schools were slow on the uptake, and fell by the wayside.

History seems to be on the verge of repeating itself, only this time, it is football and the NIL that is driving the change. Basketball should be a cautionary tale about sitting on the sidelines and not embracing these changes.

Makes sense to me. We have never been a basketball power.

R.O.I. - upgrade LJ, go to NCAA tournament, get to a sweet 16 then a couple more one and dones. There's the pay back. Upgraded facilities paid for and now back to norm. Calhoun may be on to something?
