I agree. Looks like some kind of M88 predecessor.

Millenials have no idea of the sacrifice made here. Some do but most don't. Not taught in public schools for the most part.

True

Unfortunately a lot of them didn’t have surviving family members to pass down even an oral history. I was disappointed in HS (late 80s) because it was skimmed over. Part of that had to do with the fact I spent my childhood with my nose in WW2 books.

As a retired teacher I'll say you don't know the half of it. Walk into a high school and ask to see an American history book. Try to find the chapter on Thomas Jefferson, ain't there. He does get a sentence or two.

Yeah .... looks like a tank retriever. I should know .... had to call them several times to get some of my heavy equipment "unstuck" several times in Viet Nam.

what a F*CKING MESS we've made of their sacrifice

Jul 8, 2020, 6:40 PM

we need more "good men" like that today!

Unfortunately

For every country, wars kill off too many good people. Big reason why countries/empires never last.

Nope not at all. America is a work in progress.

Jul 8, 2020, 9:49 PM [ in reply to what a F*CKING MESS we've made of their sacrifice ]

Through our differences we get better every day.

It’s only when freedom is curtailed, then do our Democratic foundational ideals embedded in the Constitution diminish.

Embrace the difference and look for 2020 solutions to the problems of the 2020s. The future requires new thought _ that’s why institutions like Clemson are integral to America’s futiure success.

Go to school. Play football. Let the next generation spread their wings. Enjoy!

I'm sure that's exactly what someone said when they first

elected Hitler to some lower rung German political post.

"Oh don't worry about it. He's got some new ideas, that's all. New ideas is what the future is made of. It does;t really matter the quality or intent of what he's saying; no, just that it's new. Boy howdy, aren't all of you kikes excited for this new fella??!!!"

That slingshot in his decal is a lethal weapon.

You hit that “Tiger” with the 88 in juuuust the right spot ??

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's great. It ain't everybody that has their own tank.

Jul 8, 2020, 9:27 PM

But, I sure wouldn't want to have to change a tire on that thing! That'd take one helluva lug wrench.

Jul 8, 2020, 9:52 PM

To change that tank tread would take several lug wrenches plus three troops.

I suppose in reality, if doing it in a shop, it would be much like my dad's bulldozer. Undo the master link pin, drive off one track and onto another. Of course in wartime conditions, it would NOT be that simple.

I had that decal on my car back in the mid 80s, got it in the bookstore when I came back for a game. Was disappointed when I couldn't get a another one of those decals after I sold the car around 1990. I'd still love to have another one.

Looks like he was in a Tank Recovery Unit. Or he's just standing

where some of their vehicles were parked. They had a very grim job, having to retrieve and clear burned out tanks and assault guns from roads and towns after the battles had ended- including enemy tanks like Tiger I, Tiger II, and Panthers that were needed for research, reverse-engineering, or for training purposes. More often than not, a destroyed tank meant dead bodies - some very badly burned or dismembered, that had to be removed, identified, and buried. Sometimes enemy soldiers were still barely alive inside them with grenades.
