So, about this Super League

Apr 19, 2021, 3:26 PM

I am against it. But I do think some people are being a bit dramatic about it. It's going to be a very messy and interesting few months and possibly years in International soccer.

Honestly, since the NCAA is such a incompetent corrupt $#!7 show...

the better power 5 programs in football and basketball should consider doing something similar.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Money grab for sure. Now they will have Champions League,

Europa League, and Super League. Not to mention league cups and national cups. If you build it, I suppose they will come..............

Banning the players from international events

will not last. There's just no way they can do that to the world cup in 2022. Let alone the upcoming euros in a couple of months

I still don't see it happening. The professional leagues are lining up on the same page, as well as UEFA, to oppose the move. I'm not sure they can sanction the players, but I believe they can and will sanction the teams. Also, none of the German clubs are interested, and I'm thinking also the French clubs. A Super League without Bayern & PSG is less desirable.

As a fan, a league without the possibility of relegation would be terrible. It would also increase the divide between rich clubs and modest clubs.

Why be against it? The sport has changed. The big Premiership teams (and European clubs) are corporations and no longer club teams founded by a community.

I do hope they fully go through with it. I mean, watching Chelsea/Man U/Man City etc vs Wolverhampton/Sheffield/etc is boring and not representative of the level of play. It is like watching Clemson play Duke/BC/GT ... sure every once in a while they're good, but it's boring 90% of the time. It isn't to our level and actually hurts us.

I would much rather see 70% of your games be consequential rather than 20%. So bring it on.

Wrong

Apr 19, 2021, 8:22 PM

Every Premier League game is consequential since the title is determined by double round robin format and no playoffs. Literally every game counts, unlike in many American sports leagues where teams and players just wait for the playoffs.

Dropping points against the "lower" teams can make or break the season. Also there were a lot of matches between the "big six" this year that ended 0-0.

I know. Promotion/relegation is so much fun. Especially when somebody you loathe goes down. I had some friends who were basically dancing on the moon when Newcastle got relegated back in the day, they despised the Toon Army that much...apparently half the people in England despises Newcastle that much. Saw some video from it, it looked entertaining, to say the least.

Whole stadium full of fans singing "ARE YOU WATCHING NEWCASTLE?!?"

I mean, you gonna cheat the fans of an opportunity to crush their opponents like that? Criminal. Hope this money-grab crashes and burns. Especially since we've got some guys on those squads like like Pulisic, McKinnie, Steffen, and Dest, we're definitely going to need for the World Cup; if they get banned because they get caught in the middle of FIFA's eminent p!ssing contest with the Super League I'm going to be mightily annoyed.

I mean, think of the fans, you money-grubbing bastages.
