WR route running question

Sep 23, 2021, 1:38 PM

I just watched the Mic’d up video of Deandre Hopkins and one thing stood out to me like crazy. It looks like he is jogging through his routes yet he gets himself open. Is that a function of a good play call or just good route running skills?

Also it cracked me up that after a last second thriller win he turned and jogged it into the tunnel like the five o’clock whistle had sounded. ??. Just business, I love it.

Gets himself open plus his hands are really huge. Too many catches for just to be a good call.

He is underrated imo.

Nuk is the best route runner in the world. It's not about speed, it's about change of direction and body control. There isn't a route that he cannot run.

Agree

It's all about changing direction without slowing down

ESPN did a great article on Hunter Renfrow a few years ago citing that as the reason why he was so good. It's not the ONLY trait you need as a receiver, and it's one of the less sexy ones, which is why it's usually the 6'4" burners that turn heads, but they can't always cut on a dime.

Thanks

I’ve been watching football for a long time but those close ups of him jogging through his routes yet still being open had me dying.

Skill is skill.

He's "playing" the DB... Set up before the burn...***
