Would you rather be in the SEC or Big Ten?

4

Feb 27, 2023, 8:56 PM

Just fur fun, cause I think we are in the ACC til at least 2036.

But if we could get out of the awful ACC, which of those two would you rather get into?

Big Ten has more money. We can beat up on Ohio State some more. Playing Michigan would be nice.

Downside is we would have a lot of long travel

The SEC would get us better recruiting. Playing more of our true rivals like Georgia or Auburn.

Downside we would be required to chant "SEC SEC SEC"

So which is better?

SEC but beggars can't be choosey.

If the BIG is our only option it's not a bad one. Of course I would want a southern division that includes us, FSU, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Virginia.

BIG10 knuckle draggers or SEC knuckle draggers - what’s the difference?

I guess $EC just because the games would be closer.

I've been seeing a lot of post about which conference Clemson should be in. one thing i haven't seen mentioned is the fact that joining the sec would probably end the tradition of gathering at the paw. seeing how the sec doesn't allow fans on the field. would anyone be willing to give that up to be an sec member?

B/c mostly Southern..great venues..crazy dedicated fans..great players..super competition..history..mostly closer in location..And we play like their best when we have the best to play with.

I Like Big10 but not Southern or as rabid a fan base Overall, imho.

yes it is a serious question. I'm curious where most fans would stand on this. personally. if it meant giving up a tradition that means so much to so many people i would rather clemson tell the sec to kick bricks.

One thing to consider.

1

Feb 27, 2023, 9:19 PM

Joing the Big Ten could possibly eliminate our yearly game with SC. Not likely since we aren’t current conference opponents anyway, but it is possible.

There is going to be a national realignment in college football and it will likely consist of four somewhat regional divisions. The playoffs will mimic the NCAA bb tournament and the division winners will be the 4 seeds, with a first-round bye. The math is too simple. There is almost no other feasible outcome.

College football is broken and in need of guidance. Set it up like the NFL with divisions and some rules that are enforceable.

Feb 28, 2023, 7:54 AM [ in reply to Neither the SEC or B10 I want a 3rd 16 Team Conf coast to coast ]

the possibility exists that Stanford, Oregon, Cal and Washington are headed to the B1G. The B1G isn't going to leave SoCal and UCLA astray out on the west coast. There is a strong likelihood they'll be adding more teams from the Pac 12.

It will be primarily a TV world if Tigers join B1G. But either is preferable to staying in the broke-a$$ ACC where a lack of TV revenue will impact recruiting, NIL, future portal opportunities, facilities and coach retention.

The Big Ten, minus the geography, is a better fit for Clemson.

Re: Would you rather be in the SEC or Big Ten?

Geographically Big10 wouldn't make sense but it would be really really cool to see Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, USC and UCLA in Death Valley every other year or so.

Yankees or Southerners???

3

Feb 28, 2023, 7:28 AM

Hmmm.....stuck in a conference full of fans from up north and the left coast, or the south?

We don't really need a poll to figure that math out.

We would be the only south team - thus picking up recruits who like Big 10 - but families want to see them play - and is much warmer.

Develop the ACC into a more attractive conference. If we had been in SEC we would have never won the Nattys in 2016 and 2018. We certainly would have not have won 7 of last 8 conference championships.

Re: Would you rather be in the SEC or Big Ten?

Feb 28, 2023, 2:11 PM

Far fewer horrible weather games especially in November.

I wouldn't mind SC being a conference game.

If the ACC doesn't approve the unequal revenue sharing plan, I could see Clemson and FSU doing whatever it takes to leave and join the SEC.

Florida and SC would scream about it, but the SEC already has three in state rivalries (Bama-Auburn, Ole Miss-MSU, and Tennessee-Vandy) with another (Texas-TAMU) being added next year.

With the PAC 12 hovering on the edge of dissolution, the ACC needs to do something or they'll be next.

It looks likely that Oregon and Washington will likely jump to the BIG and they may take Stanford and Cal with them.

The Big 12 is openly courting Arizona, Az State, Utah and Colorado. That would leave Oregon State and Wazzou in the Mountain West or the American, neither of which are great options.

It's time to think seriously about getting out of the ACC and its' horrible business decisions.

So Clemson is cash poor because of the ACC? It really shows with the new facility and Dabo’s contract. This question must be football based. There is no better conference for basketball, baseball or soccer.
With road games at Georgia or Bama or LSU or Auburn or Tenn our chances at a conf or national championship in football would be one notch above nil.

You said there is no better baseball conference than the ACC - was you trying to get a laugh? No conference can equal the SEC in football or baseball. Not being mean just stating facts. Usually, there are three of the eight teams at Omaha from the SEC.
