Woodworking Project

The paw is my latest woodworking project. I also made one that I sent to Coach Swinney. Goes with the Clemson University seal I made a few years ago. All natural wood (no paints or stains). Both about 18 inches in diameter.

These take quite a bit of time - 35 to 40 hours each - which generally prices me out of the market.

Aside I don't have a license from Clemson to use the paw (or the seal or even the word Clemson for that matter) so I'm unlikely to have them for sale. I could probably get one just not sure how that works. Right now there are 2 of each of them; I have 1 and Clemson has the other - Coach Swinney has the paw and the second university seal was in the President's house (not sure if it is still there or not though).

Licensing from Collegiate Licensing Co

Apr 18, 2017, 9:49 AM

cam be pretty expensive if you aren't selling a lot of volume or high, high dollar amounts.

https://www.clc.com/Licensing-Info.aspx

That being said, you could sell a FORTUNE's worth of those if you could only churn them out faster. But the intricacy and craftsmanship is what really makes them special so here we sit with the exact same result you stated above...

I thought there was some sort of craftsman

Apr 18, 2017, 7:06 PM

License you could get? I think I heard that when the white oak pens were being sold.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, if you could get around the licensing issue,

I would pay some serious money. We're talking a case of Bud Light and a gift certificate to Goober's.

Or more.

How do you keep Gamecocks out of your yard?

What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?

Excellent craftsmanship and details. How long did it take you to finish?

18 inches you say? That would fit my truck rims perfectly

Re: Where you find that purple wood? Jk, these are great!

Apr 18, 2017, 9:25 AM

The purple wood is called purple heart. it is naturally purple though over time especially when exposed to sunlight it turns brown. It is available at most exotic wood dealers. You can also find it on ebay.

I also used maple, cherry, and ash on the paw.

Thanks for the kind words all. Never been much of an artist but quite by accident found a hidden skill. Thanks again.
