With Urban Meyer likely out, does Jacksonville come after Dabo?

Oct 10, 2021, 9:34 AM

Sometimes when a fan base gets critical of their coach after doing so much, that coach often leaves (Jimbo Fisher-FSU, Mike Leach-TTech, Nick Saban-LSU, etc).

Could this be the year Dabo gets pulled from Clemson? The scene is perfect... Clemson fans are very critical, despite his record, and this gives him a great opportunity to reunite with his best QB and RB combo on an NFL team.

Be careful before you take Dabo for granted. Our next coach might be the next Ken Hatfield.

Not too sure the owner would be sold on a formerly very successful college coach when the one he currently has isn’t getting it done.

If i was jacksonville there wouldn't be any scenario Dabo makes a top 20 list of potential hires.

And Dabo is a top recruiter and salesman there is no way his skillset transfers to the pros.

He’s had a pretty successful NFL coaching career.

What rock have you been living under? Carroll was a great DC and unsuccessful head coach before he went to So Cal. He was a great Xs and Os guy.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dabo faced criticism before and he is

Oct 10, 2021, 9:41 AM

Still here. I don't think that would make Dabo go. Tons of Clemson nation stills support him and have his back. Only a small vocal minority is negative on him.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You can call him out and question him on things that are obvious issues that need fixed

Oct 10, 2021, 7:42 PM

Including things that have been an obvious problem for years.

You can do that and still support Dabo and Clemson! It’s not an either or situation.

Would you suggest that a parent that is critical of their child doesn’t love their child and doesn’t want the best for their child and should no longer support their child if their child is screwing up and making obvious mistakes?

Yep, and it didn’t take long for him to lose more than just the games. Locker room, respect. I’d be shocked if his agent hasn’t already spoken with Southern Cal about their opening.

The SoCal President (a woman) wouldn’t allow him to be a candidate last summer

Oct 10, 2021, 5:17 PM

She’s already told the BOT he’s not an option. He will never coach at SoCal, too many controversies at that school with the doctors that sexually assaulted tons of women for years, the culture there is too toxic, they are trying to change their image.

Good looking out, I hadn’t heard that. I have a number of coworker friends who are Trojan fans, some fair weather so I prob should take their opinions with a grain of sand. They keep barking about they have to get a big name coach after they tried to take the high road with Helton. Personally, I’d have no problem if UM never came back to college football.

If bringing in a college coach with no NFL experience is a disaster, why would they try it again with Dabo?

Re: With Urban Meyer likely out, does Jacksonville come after Dabo?

Oct 10, 2021, 9:58 AM

No. They would go after Steve Spurrier, or Jimmy Johnson ,two Florida type of guys.

It is hard to say.
The Trevor ETN relationship is there.
They will be looking for someone who isnt going to get anywhere near the muck Urban just opened.
They will be looking for someone with a positive message.
So maybe?
But you also have some Joe Brady's and such out there who are NFL guys who are probably ready for their shot.
Would Dabo show up on the list? Probably... is he their first phone call? Probably not.
Would he go?
I dont think so... not with the President and AD we currently have.
If Dabo leaves, it will be because the President/AD/Football coach triangle has soured.

No chance. First Dabo wouldn't likely do it. Secondly, they aren't going back to another unproven college coach.

Unless Dabo wants to go where winning 6 games is acceptable. Criticism from the vocal minority will be there. It'll only be greater elsewhere without all the past success to fallback on.

Saban couldn’t cut it in the NFL…

Oct 10, 2021, 2:48 PM

fifteen years ago when he was young and fiery and hungry. What would possibly make you think Dabo would fare better in a league where the players and their $millions define the culture? They’d be a fool to hire him and the only reason for him to go would to make a few more dollars before retiring from coaching.

If Urban is fired or quits, which I don't think will happen, no way will the owner hire another coach with no NFL experience. He'll go after a former HC in the NFL with considerable NFL experience.

Re: With Urban Meyer likely out, does Jacksonville come after Dabo?

Oct 10, 2021, 5:12 PM

I think this thread must be some kind of spoof. What is the world does Dabo have in common with a Bill Belichick or Andy Reid? The NFL is not about getting facilities built or selling a family atmosphere to a 17 year old and his parents. Completely different skill set. It will never happen but I think he would last about half a season in the NFL. I would guess he knows this but if not he could ask Spurrier or Little Nick what it takes to win in the NFL. Mostly out thinking or out innovating the opposition with the same talent level not to mention a lot of 15 hour work days and endless hours of film study.

If Urbs quits or is fired season 1, or before, that owner will never hire another college coach again… so no.

1st poast... Long time Tiger.
The Jaguars will be fine, Trevor is becoming more comfortable with the speed of the NFL and will become an elite QB.
Dabo is not on the radar here in Jacksonville.
Urban will get his 3 years to turn the franchise around and hopefully he will.
I was at the Gator Bowl Game where Woody punched Charlie and at the Orange Bowl game in 1981,so come on with your Coot Comments.
I'll take it with a grade of slaw....

Dabo needs to worry about beating Cuse and Wake before we make him the Bill Belichick of Florida.
