Oct 3, 2021, 12:01 PM

Pitch out to Mafah.

Those plays worked so well.

The jet sweep work well the ONLY TIME they ran it.

With Ross and Will Taylor injured, not sure who runs it.

It worked well with Ross early, but he got hurt (not on that play) then the second time we tried it Taylor got hurt.

Our capable players weren’t available for the jet sweep although I agree, it’s a good play with the right combination of guys.

The jet sweep worked well for Ross because their D wasn’t expecting it. When W. Taylor comes in the game they knew that was coming. They have watched game tape. All we do with Taylor is jet sweeps and Wildcat QB runs. When you saw Taylor in the game on that play and then saw him go in motion it was pretty obvious that was coming, but who knows maybe eventually they would use that play as a fake to set something up in the future.

I'm dissappointed there were no more bubble screens run. Man I miss those.

Yep, gains 1 or 2 yards every time.

Sometimes it only takes breaking one tackle or making one black to break one of those.

Sometimes they are using it to pull the defense closer to the line of scrimmage to set up something else.

IMHO, the pitch out play is a waste of time. Usually, the runner receiving the pitch has no blockers in front of him and is eaten up by the defense. It might yield one or two yards. Also, it increases the chance of the runner getting hurt, since he gets smacked pretty hard. It develops way too slowly. The D
can see it coming. The Pawwwwwwwl Johnson triple option was more effective, because the D had a tough time figuring out who would actually carry the ball. In Dabo's early years as head coach, that play would spook our defense. We can't run it because we are wayyyyyyy too slow.

A wide pitch is different from the option ... gets the back

Oct 3, 2021, 1:51 PM

in space and Mafah made it work the times we tried it.

DJ is no kind of option QB ...

Never, ever have DJ run the option! It reminds me of Bo Ruffner running the sweep!

Mafah and Pace both looked good. Pace is really smooth and quick. Mafah and Ship and going to be the next thunder and lightning.

Cannot believe that we were going to redshirt Mafah.

Wondered the same. Maybe pass blocking, getting the playbook down? I don't know, but we were stacked at RB, now we're not...thank goodness he can run.

the best back on the team.

Marsh looked good. Dye was better. And Shipley was the best of all of them.
