With Our Defense

Jun 7, 2014, 8:49 AM

I've thought about this long and hard after realizing the potential that our defense this year has to be a shut down defense. I think that if our offense can score at least 24 points a game we go undefeated. What's your thoughts?

FSU and a few others will be able to put some points up, but on average, 24 is probably not too far off. Sure would hate to see our O reduced to a 24 ppg average, though.

Clemson has had "only" one undefeated season in
the past 33 years,and with a game at UGA(check out our record in Athens),a road trip to FSU,and Bobby Dodd( see above),Louisville( what are they going to have),a thursday niter(what is our record in those games),and of course the 0-5 skid against the coots,I'm not worried whether we score 24 points or more;
I'm more concerned with taking it one game at a time.
No team, and I mean no team has every gone undefeated thinking one game ahead.
It's too long of a season.

P.s.You think if our offense can score at least 24 points; What's your thoughts if they don't?
And what about special team play?
Or being outcoached?
Just food for fodder.

It all depends on 3 things

Jun 7, 2014, 10:04 AM

1. health
2. are young CBs as good as we think they might be
3. Kearse (and others in secondary....) knowing assignments (the talent is there)

And honorable mention finding good play at SAM, which to me has been an issue for many years, I won't name names....

I sort of think SAM won't be an issue because I expect Blanks to win the majority of snaps at that spot, even if you want to call it Nickel instead, and he will be much better there like his fresh year then he was at S last year.

Health you obviously can't control. It comes down to the secondary....again talent seems to be there but we simply can't have the massive busted plays that result in 14 or 21 points in a game not because of a sustained drive or a player being beat, but because we have a guy just in the wrong spot. Has to end.
