Winning National Championships sure don't come easy...

May 6, 2021, 7:40 PM

and it shouldn't be but with that said that is why coaches like Dabo Swinney,Danny Ford,I.M. Ibrahim and Larry Penley are of the special breed of head coaches to have coached at Clemson and won at the highest level...Note:I started this thread under the Football Board because Football has won the most National Titles

Sure don't come easy. Some of the so-called big boys haven't sniffed a championship for 41 years.

I have to include Krease and Wilhelm to that list. No, they didn't win a natty but neither did Mike Martin. But they were competitive year in and year out.

Clemson has had legendary coaches in each sport except basketball. Not because we didn't care, but we didn't have the resources to compete until recently with what Dabo has built. Coach Penley and Coach Krease, Wilhelm built powerhouses in spite of pour resources and commitment from the AD. That's what great coaches do. Dabo wasn't handed everything. He's earned it.

But your point is spot on. That said, this loss today stings. Playing in championship games and losing hurts.

Kriese’s best teams in the 80s had the misfortune

Yes, I do remember that. Apologies to all, I always misspell his name. My bad.

And thanks for bringing up that point. That's part of what I was trying to say but did a bad job of it. The West Coast always had a jump on us and every bumpkin from the south... Mainly because of print and perception. LSU could have 50 scholly baseball players, Bama like 200 football schollys. Until things were regulated and rules adopted, wasn't a level playing field.

Wasn't the Pendleton course our home course in golf but a public course first. Kinda a cow pasture by today's standards. Let's face it, the West Coast being progressive have dominated women's sports until it was cool in the East too. Plus the addition to include African Americans.

But now, there shouldn't be any excuse for adoption of best is the standard!

Dangit, of any sport this spring, I thought our best chance at a natty was men's Soccer. Hope they swallow it all summer and come back lights out in the fall, kinda like DW4 in 2016.

And, who knows, I'd be ecstatic if the women just make the cup.

And then there's golf... Already ordered an extra bottle of Xanax for that week... That's the one I want more than any this year.
