Will TP be ready to go on Saturday? Sam Howell had 104 yds

rushing on 21 carries in UNC's win over Wake. State's QB had -2 in their loss. We will need TP's running ability against Wake to keep the chains moving and give DJ some breaks during the game. DJ(and our offense) does better when he can come out and watch from the sidelines periodically.

Our Tigers will not beat WF with El Cinco in the game full time, The Tiger defense will not allow Wake their normal 40+ points but Clemson will have to out score awake and that will not happen with golden boy throwing the ball around. Hopefully Shipley will be 100% and TP gets to play more than a few snaps. Ball control will be big in this game. The fewer times Wake has the ball on offense the better our chance for survival! Potter may end up being the leading scorer. Move the chains. Do that and you win this game. A FACT

Would love to see what Shipley and TP can do in the option

game. Two guys that will hit it hard up field. The defense will have to respect both options, which they don't have to with DJ and we can see some long runs from the rb position.

We couldn't block for running plays against UCONN when the defense didn't know if it was a run or a pass.
You think we can block for running plays when the defense knows a run is coming?
Wake doesn't have a great run defense, but I'm not sure it's any worse than UCONN's.

There were a number of players who sat out the UConn game

so that we would be in better shape for the Wake game.
So, yes, I do think we can block for running plays when the defense doesn't know who will get the ball. Unlike when DJ is the QB running the RPO game, when the defense knows that the QB will not keep it or if he does, he won't be running past anyone.
Hope that helps.

RPO stands for run/pass option. It is not a fancy name for the zone read run play like most on TNET seem to think.
DJ is the only QB who runs RPOs in the true sense.
TP runs RROs for run/run options.
It doesn't matter if the defense doesn't know which guy will run it if they know we won't pass it downfield.
What you are calling for is to run an offense based off of the double option of either Shipley or TP getting the ball on a running play.
For a series I think it's a great plan, but over the course of a game we would end up running the ball against an 8 or 9 man box. Nobody in the country outside of triple option teams runs the ball against a defense that is stacked like that.
Our success with the RBs toward the middle of the season was because, even while inconsistent, defenses still had to honor DJ's arm strength and keep CBs and safeties respecting the passing game.
We have seen very quick adjustments to safeties playing in the box this season when TP has entered games for more than a play or two.

I get what you said. I comprehend your post just fine.
You think having the possibility of 2 guys running it is better than the possibility of 1 guy running it or the other guy throwing it.
Schematically that just isn't true over the course of a game and especially not over the course of a season.
That's why triple option offenses trended toward the 3 options being run/run/pass instead of run/run/run.
Our coaches have shifted to trying to let our RBs win the games for us on offense, but in order to do that we have to have the passing QB in the game to give us a chance to keep the DBs back away from the box.
Smart or not, we are trying to win games 4 yards at a time with enough passing to "keep them honest".
Again, I really like the idea of TP coming in a series here and there and switching up our options, but DJ has to be the main guy unless he is too hurt to do anything at all.
He seemed very close to that "too hurt to do anything" mode on Saturday. We can only hope he heals some in a week.
Unless TP's shoulder is too hurt to run, I'm sure the coaches will say TP is fine to try to be able to put him in to run in hopes that Wake might honor the pass with him in for a play or two.

My original post explained it quite completely and succinctly, but then your imagination took over.

How about try a brand new offensive approach never been done. Put BOTH DJ and TP in at the same time and keep the defense guessing who's gonna get the snap. If TP get's it he can still pitch it back to DJ for the throw.
Surely our OC genius can make this work!

this season. In fact, a few different times. When that does occur, DJ lines-up in the slot and TP lines-up in the shotgun signaling the defense that the play is a designed QB run.
While the play in a RPO, since TP sees such limited PT, any time he has a chance to run the ball, he's absolutely going to do it, so the "P" option is a non-factor, and defenses absolutely know it.
