Will be at the FSU Game (1st Trip to Death Valley) Need Info

Oct 13, 2013, 8:18 PM

Hello all. I would like to say 1st I am a huge CFB Fan. I actually played at both ASU and Miami. That being said I am going to the FSU game with a friend and he is a huge FSU fan. I know, I know but he is cool. Just to make things fun I will be rooting for the Tigers and wearing Orange.

I did have a few questions as I have been to about 40 different stadiums and every tailgate is different.

1. Do I have to pay for parking? On the school website it says there are certain FREE Lots but everyone seems to be selling parking passes. What is the deal?

2. Are Clemson fan hospitable. I mean if my friend and i are just walking around will people offer us to join them in thier tailgate or will they just simple not pay attention. Will my friend be tar and feathered because he is wearing FSU gear? Stuff like that.

3. What are good places to go/see on campus as this will be our 1st trip.

4. Are any of you on this message board kind enough to invite us to meet you and your group for some food pre-game. We will of course donate money or drinks or both.

As I said before I love college football and go to about 3 big games a year. I normally go solo but my FSU friend is joining me this trip. We are driving up from Tampa. If it is a good experience I will make Death Valley an annual trip as well. We are hoping to meet some good people and have a great time.

Go Tigers !!!!! (I like Clemson better than FSU anyway, as I am a UM alum)

Thanks for any comments or advice.

Justin

Welcome

There is free parking but be prepared to walk a long way to the stadium.

Clemson gets picked as friendliest tailgate environment year after year

Make sure you hit downtown and the Esso Club

We won't make this one but I'm sure you'll find plenty of friendly folks. If you friend doesn't talk a bunch of junk, even he will be welcomed.

Go to clemsontigers.com to find best places to park. Yes, Clemson fans are very nice. We will be really nice if you dress in orange.

Rookies, visitors and Yankees stay the hell away! If you arnt willing to be the 12th man for Clemson and sacrifice your vocal cords then watch it from the couch.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Says the guy who will probably be watching from the couch.

Oct 13, 2013, 9:26 PM

No need to be a d##k man. If homey has tix, and wants to come enjoy a spectacular gameday environment, replete with georgous babes, friendly peeps and beautiful surroundings, you should welcome him and his bud(s).

Would you want someone throwing the "members only" stuff at you if you were going to Tallahasse next year?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would be disappointed in FSU if I wasn't harassed

Oct 13, 2013, 9:53 PM

For wearing orange to tally for the big game. Yea I would expect most people to be congile like our fellow Tnetters already have demonstrated but I would also expect a small percentage to show how they really feel about my orange shirt. That's just good old college football in the south! As far as tickets, I live in MS now with a young kid so getting to the games is tough. I am looking for a ticket so if you have an extra and want it to go to someone willing to sacrifice their voice for the men in orange then hit me up!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wrong...He's gonna be wearing orange and wants to experience

Death Valley. Go tell Brent Musburger to stay out of the Esso Club!

I am totally going to lose my voice cheering for Clemson. My number was #10 so just based on that fact I am buying a Boyd jersey and rooting for the Tigers.

You shouldn't have any problems

Oct 13, 2013, 9:35 PM

Essentially as long as your buddy isn't a jerk you shouldn't have any problem. There is a lt of public parking but everything "close" will fill fairly early - especially since Gameday will be here. Parking will be available you will just have to walk a (long) ways. You can find parking passes for sale but they will be big bucks for this game.

I'm not much of a tailgater so I can't help you there.

One word of warning, if this is a close game traffic will be horrendous after the game (for reference it took about 2hours to get out of the parking lot after UGA game). All the roads go out of town after the game there just aren't many roads.

Have fun.

Try Esso Club for beer outside (Brett Musberger's fav)..

Oct 13, 2013, 9:45 PM

Maybe be up on the outside Hill of stadium to watch Tiger Band come down towards stadium playing Tiger Rag..

Then inside stadium (if not in UPPER Deck since no way down) go to large scoreboard at North side and stand as near to bottom of it as you can to see Tiger Team get off buses & come into stadium so to touch Howard's ROCK before running down The HILL onto field between Band.

Then, get to your seat and enjoy game! Will be loud, fun & wild..and if Tigers win go out onto the field after game and enjoy yourself with thousands of Orange fans.

Welcome to Death Valley #1..and Go#3TiGERs!

To clarify on the Clemson House parking suggestion...

Oct 16, 2013, 1:48 PM

most of the spaces directly around the Clemson House are reserved now. (The Clemson House is a tall hotel/dorm up on a hill across Hwy 93 from the main entrance to campus -- Google Maps it). However, there is a free public lot immediately to the east of the Clemson House. If you come on to campus on Hwy 93 from the east turn right onto Palmetto Blvd at the Cherry Road traffic light. Security will direct you to several open fields (where I believe married housing used to be). You'll be a 5 minute walk from College Gameday and Tillman Hall.

Enjoy!

Get to the game early

Oct 13, 2013, 10:22 PM

I would suggest several hours early. Its an all day event. Along with the suggested ideas, you might want to check out an old fashion pep ralley held 1.5 hours before kickoff near the Clemson library. Visiotrs are generally welcomed. Also a newer tradition is Tiger Walk on the west side of stadium. 2 hours before kickoff. Littlejohn Collisium (Basketball areana) always has a lot going on before games. Also make sure you go by the East entrance by the Hill and see Howard's Rock. Its hard to see from your seats so going by is best bet. Esso Club is a great suggestion but it will be packed on game days. Also a stroll around the beautful campus is never a bad idea. prepare to walk a lot. Have fun!

Enjoy The Greatest Place on College Earth

Oct 13, 2013, 10:29 PM

Wear your colors proudly and be polite and you will be welcomed heartily by 99% of the fans. Parking, if you want to leave right after game your best bet is to park further away from stadium as you can walk the first mile or two quicker than you can drive it. Best bet is park in residential areas North of stadium and pay your $20-30 and find people to tailgate with until traffic clears out. Absolutely hit Esso Club and Tigertown Tavern both within walking distance of the stadium.

Prior to the game walk over to East end of stadium on Williams St and you can get within 20 ft of Frank Howard's rock and you can see down "the hill" it is well worth doing. Enjoy.

Best tailgating is on Cemetery Hill

Oct 13, 2013, 10:30 PM

And just about any group will offer you drinks and food.

In fact, if I had to do it over again, I would have come to games as a student wearing the opponents colors and acted like I hadn't been there before, just for the free beer and food.

Love to have you join us

Oct 13, 2013, 10:52 PM

If you get there early you can park for free at clemson house which is right above where we tailgate, we tailgate and do it right at Tillman hall which will be right up from where gameday at bowman field will be, we have a nice big setup with a lot of room on the lawn, you will see 3-4 tents put together with a sign that reads Tillman hall tailgaters, you don't have to bring anything but if you feel inclined to bring a case of beer or something go right ahead, we love meeting and showing people the true hospitality of clemson, so join us if you would like if you want my contact information in case you can't find us just let me know, we are very hard to miss thou. Go tigers hope you and your pal enjoy clemson

Great place to tailgate. The best spots are paid for, you can get a parking pass and be in a really good spot or you can park in "The Pit" (C1 commuter lot) where parking will be free. If you're there early enough you can get a spot near a grass median and under a tree. It's kind of far from the stadium but it's not a bad spot, my roommates and I (Clemson students) tailgate out there for some games.

Clemson fans are very hospitable. Even for the big rivalry game against South Carolina you see orange and garnet so it will be no different against FSU. Most trash talking is pretty innocent, Clemson fans are very classy (but I am slightly biased of course.)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you will fall in love with clemson, no two ways about it !

Oct 15, 2013, 3:33 AM

"If it is a good experience I will make Death Valley an annual trip as well." i expect you will now make an annual trek up to s.c..
for future reference, clemson plays fsu and scar at home in alternating years. right now, at least until the acc schedule (coastal division opponents) rotates, and that would be the biggest home game of the year. (louisville might change that a little next year, if bridgewater stays), and also who we pick up as an ooc home and home, depending on the year ( we go to athens next year.)

Re: Will be at the FSU Game (1st Trip to Death Valley) Need Info

Oct 15, 2013, 7:51 AM

1.) My best advice is to buy a parking pass sold on Tigernet. The general lots are far from the stadium and not always the best for tailgating atmosphere.
2.) Clemson fans are the best. Not being a homer - moved here 11 years ago and have experienced lots of different places. It is the best combination you will find of enthusiastic intelligent fans who also respect the competition and enjoy showing off The Death Valley experience to anyone who comes.
3.) The campus is 10 times bigger than the town and the school is relatively small compared to UF, OSU, Mich, etc. Esso Club, Game Day on Sat morning. Get to your lot early on Saturday and plan on walking around the campus and town. Once parked you wont be going anywhere by car until after 1am.
3a) Because this game is so big some of the normal respect offered opponents may be missing on this trip if your friend is in FSU gear. Be prepared for that but most likely nothing as horrible as you would see at USuc, Alabama. No guarantee though. If he is respectful we will be respectful back.
4.) Clemson is ranked as the best tailgating experience by Southern Living and is ranked as one of the best college football experiences anywhere every year.

Enjoy

If you can't find a parking pass or don't want to spring for

Oct 15, 2013, 9:36 AM

One bc they will be pretty expensive, then park downtown. If you're getting there at 8 then turn down College Ave off of Hwy 123. Once you start up the hill look for parking on the left. These are church lots, Boy Scout troops and should be about $25 for a spot. You will be right downtown near all the bars as well as be close to Gameday (if they do it in the same spot as last time.) This is where I park when I don't have a pass. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to the stadium but hey, you have all day to get there. It's also an easy out after the game.
