Wide Recievers

Sep 26, 2021, 6:34 AM

We heard all spring and through fall camp about these guys and how dominant they looked and how they were destined for huge years. Just crazy how fast this offense has dropped off.

Though 4 games

EJ Williams- 2 catches for 10 yards

Frank Ladson - 4 catches for 19 yards

Ajou Ajou- 2 Catches for 16 yards.

Well, wide receivers can't catch balls when your quarterback can't throw a simple crossing patterns, or he overthrows/underthrows them.
Of course a quarterback can't complete a pass to a receiver wide receiver who runs the wrong route, or stops.
And of course if the quarterback is throwing off the wrong foot( or throwing flatfooted) or the pocket is collapsing around him because his "O"- line is being pushed around...he might complete one of the pass;
to a guy in the other colored jersey.
Any other observations you care to make about our wide receivers?

Not going to disagree with that. I 100 percent agree with you on that. There are problems all across the board on offense. Qb play, o line, WR separation, play calling. It’s not all on the wide outs but just a disappointing stat bc those guys have so much talent and that’s how there seasons are going

And the offense can't succeed if the playbook has a vanilla cover on it and the head coach is too stubborn to make any changes to the offensive schemes and the coaching staff because "we won 2 national championships" with these coaches. This crap didn't happen overnight. It's been 2 years in the making, since before Scott left. Dabo is no the man I thought he was and he has clearly been lying to us and continues to do so.

Totally agree. Seems we just keep doing the same thing over and over even if it’s not working. Makes no sense

I’m not sure it’s the receivers but the routes they are told to run. It’s pretty simple to have a timer and see how much time your line can hold the pcoket, and then you must plan routes that can be developed within that time. We’re easy to baseline because we don’t employ pre-snap motion. WE’re also not throwing to our backs or ends because they are needed for pass protection. When we can’t show threats beyond 7 yards the defense crowds the box and we can’t run. This staff needs to re-evaluate everything and take a deep look at themselves, who has the heart (cannot see where DJ does) and will to push their talent, and start loosenign up, taking some chances, and having some fun out there.

I have one. What we hear from TV guys on most every play,

including RGIII yesterday, who knows his football.

"Nobody OPEN. Archaic playcalls."

Not saying the offensive line ain't a sieve, but if the ball came out faster, the whole game dynamic would change.

All of our current WR are out of the same mold

Sep 26, 2021, 7:56 AM

6'3-6'4 and cannot get quick separation. The slants, and quick curls, and drag routes that have moved the chains for us for years are not there. On the 4th and 5 yesterday is there any doubt that play would have gone to a slot guy in the past?

That one missing piece takes away the middle of the field in the short passing game, which clogs up the boundaries. We've always had 1-2 smaller, quicker receivers. This year we have zero
