Wide Receiver shortage - what is the back up plan?

Nov 23, 2021, 8:35 PM

If Williams Ngata and Stellato are also out (along with Ross, Ladson Specter and the freshman baseball guy) we are down to the Collinses, (clueless) Ajou, and walkons Swinney and Brown. I am at a loss to understand what value is added by starting Will Swinney. Wake totally ignored him. At least Ajou and the back up TEs are big enough to go up against SEC corners, safeties and linebackers, and occupy a defender. Why not put Shipley in the slot? He is our fastest player on offense. Or move a defensive back over to WR? Seems like playing 10 on 11 is pointless. Thoughts/comments?

You must have been the manager of a team that was embarrassed by Daniel High School when Will Swinney played there.

I think Dabo will make great use of his TEs and rbs Saturday night. But the Collins guys will also make some big plays and blocks.

According the depth chart (posted on TNet ... see for yourself), the "SEC" safety's with whom the 5'9" Will Swinney must contend are 5'10" -&- 6'0" -&- 6'0" ... obviously these towering monsters will cast an eclipse-like shadow over the ACC receiver that you seem to despise.

For sure, you've got me scared.

Me think the Coach knows what he is doing. I will go with his Plan as to who plays what position. Next Man up.

Had the same line up and killed wake pretty sure the coaches know what they are doing. Why risk Shipley in the slot when he’s gonna get 100 on the ground and catch some out the backfield. And the Collins boys played harder then any receiver we’ve had this year and Beaux is an absolute monster. It’s literally nothing we haven’t dealt with the entire year

Will Swinney is a good WR that could play for many mid-major teams & start. He good enough to make plays & has plenty of experience.

Greatest coach alive….

By the name of Belichick rarely utilizes 3 wide out sets. Two tight end sets especially with fast and mobile ones like ours can not only support a good running atrack but provide a passing threat as well. Tigers have enough firepower to score 27+ points. ##### will not match that against our D. I’m sleeping well waiting for Sat. Night.

Run 2 tights and ball control while literally anyone, walk-on, 3 star, whomever fills out the slots and wides just to keep the opponent honest until one or more develope hands and separation. Ol’ Ball Coach did that at USC and went 10-2 and they never even developed receivers, just used mobile QB Shaw as needed. Its a sure-thing as a back-up plan. If no one developes in a few games, put the word out and someone will unexpectedly pop into the portal for us to grab, as Dano said we would have to use it at some point.
