EXACTLY. Dabo should be able to test whenever he wants and it shouldn't be an issue.

Yep! My guess is he knew there was an issue with them (or with some) and he chose to get it done before there was a mandatory test issued by NCAA or by a Bowl Committee.

NCAA tests are done before any NCAA championship event ... All sports
Clemson also has a random drug testing protocol
It is all designed to discourage drug use
NCAA and CU test for PEDs and Street Drugs
NCAA penalty for PEDs ( adderall or steroids) 1 year
NCAA penalty for marijuana is six games
Clemson has a system of its own of structured penalty for all athletes

Why would you have a drug test 2 days before one of the biggest games in Clemson history? If it was mandated, why were the other 3 teams not tested. I do not get it. If it was Clemson's decision to do the test, then that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Not condoning the mistakes of the players, but really, 2 days before the game???

While I don't disagree with this, it may serve to head off a "revelation" later when we win the NC. I'd hate for them to bring this out then. It just seems to me that Dabo either had suspicions or he learned something about this and didn't want it to come up later. JMO

I think the coaches got some intel that some of the players would fail if tested in Miami. They acted preemptively.

Per NCAA protocol, when an NCAA championship reaches the semifinal round each squad undergoes random drug testing. The NCAA does not sponsor a championship in the FBS postseason (CFP). However, like the BCS before it, the CFP is an NCAA-sanctioned event. The NCAA does randomly test athletes at bowls, though not all the bowl teams. An equal number of athletes per team is chosen for urinalysis drug testing.
Just last year one of Oregon's best players was sent home for weed because of mandatory NCAA testing. The player's dad went on all the networks saying Oregon was the only team tested, but he was proven wrong. The player also had to sit out 1st 6 games this season. If Cain is able to get his crap together he will also have to sit out 1st 6 games in 2016

I thought I read somewhere (either on tnet or B/R) that this was a test administered after they returned from their Christmas time off (aka last Saturday). Interesting timing that's for sure.

Are you suggesting it's more important to ignore the rules the bigger the bowl gets? Definitely don't want a bunch of Ray Lewis wannabes running around killing people in Phoenix after the championship game...
Also, I'm fairly sure it's a CFP requirement to drug test just like fighters do before/after fights.

I believe that this was done right before or after the Christmas break. The other 3 schools might have done this-but we are probably the only one to release results. I would rather lose by playing within the rules then win by playing outside of them.

Dabo's master plan. We cruise past the Sooners just like last year to have a fresh Deon for the championship. Ammon just wanted hang out at South Beach. Probably not going to happen like this but I hope it does.

As can be seen from my posting history I don't post often. That said, it is unfortunate that these players hit the the spliff. But ya know, the way drugs are marketed these days I'm curious to know how many of our holier than thou fans have popped a ###### and cialis and felt bad after their 'performance' the next day. FO. These are kids and they deserve both forgiveness and a second chance. Flame away ...

I would hope that the NCAA would test every team in the playoffs. Not just for drugs but PED's as well. Sorry that something like this would take away from everything that comes with the #1 ranking and playoffs. No excuse for doing something this stupid right before one of the biggest games in Clemson's history.

If these were NCAA Tests the suspensions would have been mandatory and for more games.

I know that is not very feasible, but maybe it would teach these kids to be accountable to their scholarships & teammates. 25% of the team randomly picked each week...
To all you "mature" fans moaning the fact that we're testing kids & punishing them just before a huge bowl game----you ALL need to check your priorities & character.

My job requires that I submit to random drug tests. I've known this from the beginning of my employment. If I choose to take drugs then maybe my family should just b!tch about the testing instead of being disappointed in me. All the while, I'm right where I should be... In the unemployment line. I'm sure potential employers think the testing is bs too! Especially since business owners are cool with putting irresponsible people in charge of their investments. Never dull on the boreds!

In response to the "bad business decision" comment, I wholeheartedly disagree. By testing immediately prior to historically significant games and taking action to remove substance abusers from the field of play, the powers that be (DRad, Dabo, whoever) are ensuring that a Tiger victory stands completely untarnished and free from any potential objections. Excellent decision to preemptively clean house so the win is pure, fair butt-whoopin.

Why are some Clemson players getting ###### up right before the biggest game of their career? That's a much better question to ask and one that I hope they're thinking really hard about right now.
