Why does BV not come out and say something

Dec 1, 2021, 8:01 PM

This is my greatest concern.

CBV has been on the job working. Think about it. Everything is a rumor. He does not owe us any explanation. The only people that he needs to worry about are his bosses, his players, his recruits, and the parents. Everything else is just noise.

His bosses, players, recruits, and parents you say?

Lincoln Riley would strongly disagree.

NOT to take a Head Coaching gig somewhere, he doesn't want to just blow these people off without at least listening to what they have to offer. It's called doing your due diligence. He, or anyone in his position, wants to keep the future options open.

Why should he? It would only legitimize the idiotic speculation and rumor mongering. I like that he’s out there doing his job and not distracted by the “noise” that he has no obligation to address. I’m glad our coaches don’t feel the need to address every rumor!!

Because he is interested in the job. Geez people it's a top 5 job in the country. Even if he were to fail you go for it. If he doesn't he will never be a head coach. If he is offered I'm 95 percent he takes it. It is a professional career. You dont talk about it publicly until a deal is or isnt made.

Pretty simple

You’re right, how dare he be an adult and listen to a job offer

and carefully consider whether he wants to take it or not?

Who does he think he is?!? We can’t be left hanging like this, and we deserve to know any and all details because we are passionate fans!

Re: You’re right, how dare he be an adult and listen to a job offer

Dec 1, 2021, 8:31 PM

The idea that you overlooked was that if he is not interested then why don’t he come out and say so. This would mean he may have interest in the job and does not want to take his name out of the hat.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don’t think you understand how this works.

Dec 1, 2021, 8:35 PM

Even if he isn’t interested in being a head coach now, the right thing to do is entertain an offer. Even if he knows he will say no, he has his name out there as a candidate.

Unless he absolutely definitely 100% never wants to be a head coach, it would be incredibly foolish for him to allow himself to get a reputation as the assistant who doesn’t want to be a head coach.

Even then, being wanted is always a good thing. He can parlay that interest into a nice raise at Clemson.

There is no way his 50 year old self can know for sure that he never wants to be a head coach. That would be incredibly short-sighted.

Why does he need to?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Two reasons.

Dec 1, 2021, 8:32 PM

If he denied every rumor that was false, then the first one he didn't deny would be true.

AND

If he is a candidate for the job and does not know whether he will accept if offered, then he would look bad to fans, recruits, his players and everyone else. Not just Brent, no coach will affirm "Yes, I interviewed, yes I would accept the job if they offered. But, if they don't offer I'll stay here."

Example: Over the past several years it has been widely reported that Billy Napier has turned down several job offers (including Auburn and SC just last year). He never gave any public statement of any kind about those or any other job.

Coaches mantra: The only job I talk about is the one I have now.

He doesn't have to answer to the internet mob having a meltdown over coaching rumors. We are entitled to nothing.

TBH, everyone needs to accept the OU job pays at least $7.5M and Brent makes $2.5M at Clemson. He is GONE.

I know it sucks, but trust Dabo. He will find another great DC. $2.5M for a DC is actually really close to HC money at all but the top 20 programs. U of Miami coach Manny Diaz only makes $3.1M.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Every year same thing happens and he never says anything about it

Dec 1, 2021, 8:47 PM

One day he may leave but this is entirely consistent with who he is and how he plays it. If he thinks you need to know something he’ll say it. He’s not here to make us feel better. This is what get coaches in trouble. If he says no he’s not going anywhere and then great fit comes a long he’s a liar. No he’s playing it just right. He owes us nothing. He’s on the recruiting trail. Again this is consistent with how he’s done this year after year
