IMO it would be a close game
Give me reasons :)

Bama played two offenses worth a crap and got tore up. Heck LSU had over 400 yards on Bama, Bama shut down a bunch of bad offenses and ND was one of them

Because you're on a tiger board and we don't respect dawgs

Mar 18, 2013, 11:05 PM

Also you lose quite a bit on defense especially in the secondary which is our strength with our WRs. Conversely UGA lives and dies by Gurhsall. As long as the interior of our DL can hold up and continue to improve, like they did against LSU we should have the advantage. Murray historically doesn't play great in big game situations so putting the game in his hands in our stadium at night should be to our advantage

Re: Why do Clemson fans think they will blowout UGA?

Mar 18, 2013, 11:08 PM

Should be a good game. However, when SEC fans say we won the Chick-fil-A game because LSU was not motivated that is just stupid. Their D had to be carted of the field because of fatigue. I think that UGA is going to be a tough game, but if y'all think it's going to be an easy win, might just be disappointed. Anyway, this should be a great match up and a game day setting. Spot the ball.

Re: Why do Clemson fans think they will blowout UGA?

Mar 18, 2013, 11:15 PM

I ,for one ,do not think we will blow you out,nor do I think the Dawgs will blow us out.
I think it will be a close game, maybe high scoring as I do not really know what our defense will bring to the table, yet knowing your team lost a lot on defense at the end of the season.
Still I do think we will win,if for no other reason we are in the Valley,it's a national tv audience, and Clemon might be a little bit more hungry in trying to regain some respect, especially with ESecPN/SEC.
I will not predict a score, but I do feel the winner will need around 34-37 points.

Re: You lost a lot on D. Our O is better. Should be a shoot out.***

Mar 18, 2013, 11:51 PM

Yeah we lost a lot of D and 2013 season was suppose to be our rebuilding year but we have a lot of young players stepping up this year so I have faith
How many returning starters you have on offense? Just wondering...
We have two senior wide recievers leaving and thats it
Im not gonna say who offense is better until the game

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

we return 7 on offense...

Mar 19, 2013, 12:12 AM

but I don't think many of us are worried about replacing the two WRs that left (Hopkins had a huge year last year, but Watkins fell off a bit and the back-ups were part of the #1 WR class in the country a couple years ago and have already shown some promise) or our C. We have a lot of production to replace at RB with Ellington leaving, but McDowell, Howard, and Brooks all have put in good playing time and are a talented group of backs.

So we aren't worried about Clemson's offense. Our defense wasn't very good last year, but they were much improved towards the end of the year (especially against the run). We lose a few DBs and a DE, but we can't do much but get better at those positions.

while Georgia averaged 50 yards less than us/ game, including 40 less/ game through the air and 10 less/ game on the ground, their final stats only put them three spots behind us in the offensive rankings. They do return their whole OL, both of their stud RBs, and a very good QB, so they're going to be a very good offensive team.

I will not disrespect UGA. This game will be a war. Physical hard hitting and running. I think we will see early who are Clemson's best wideouts. Our young secondary will get tested but I think our defense will perform well. We need to cage Gurley and Marshall. Special teams could be the difference in this one. Clemson will not beat itself.I think we ride Boyd to the victory in a close one.

In all honesty

Mar 19, 2013, 12:08 AM

I dont think it will be a blowout, although I would love nothing more than to open the season with a blowout of a top 10 team(as would any fan of their school),But I do think Clemson wins the game. (atleast as of right now)

As it looks right now, I think Clemson has the better offense returning, and the defense can really only get better right?

We picked up A LOT of help in the secondary in the recruiting cycle. and although we missed out on a few of the big name Dlineman (Montravius Adams/Carl Lawson) we got some help there too in Ogundeko (who looks a lot bigger than his listed weight) and Shaq Lawson, a recruit from the 2012 cycle that had to go the prep school route after not qualifying. I dont know if he will be starting or not (probably not as he would have to beat out Corey Crawford (who when the lights turn on for this guy, he could be a huge impact player) and Vic Beasley (who is a freak of nature and is gaining muscle weight, and so far in spring practices, the coaches have raved about his improvements) but even if Lawson isnt starting, he should see a good amount of playing time his freshman year. DT position will also seem greatly improved from last year as well as we didnt lose any starters and DJ Reader and Carlos Watkins both have a year under their belts now. We also got a pretty good DT commit from Hawaii in Scott Pagano, who looks humongous. Linebackers should also be really good, with the addition of Kellen Jones, the Oklahoma transfer who came with Brent Venables. People who were at practices thoughout last season said he was the best LB on the team, he just couldnt play last year because of transfer eligibility rules. Stephone Anthony and Tony Steward should both come into the season fully healthy and will both see the field a lot. (Anthony is already listed as the starter, and it will depend on if Steward can get a starting job somewhere)

Tajh Boyd returning was the biggest recruit of last years class though. Theres no denying he's a great QB. and the loss of Nuk Hopkins hurts, but I expect Sammy Watkins to pick up the slack and you have to remember, theres still 2 other WR's on the team that were ranked as top 5 WR's in the 2011 recruiting class in Peake and Bryant. I think one of them will also step it up this season (hopefully both). And then theres the ever so reliable Adam Humphries, who seems to be able to do just about anything, playing WR, returning punts, and playing CB at times last year due to injuries to the secondary late in the season. On top of that, theres the (RS) Freshman Germone Hopper, the speedster who the coaches really didnt even want to RS last year becaus of his talent, but they knew they would be wasting a year of his eligibility because he would be playing behind Watkins/Hopkins etc. I think "Hot Rod" McDowell will surprise a few people when he runs the ball, he started coming out this past season behind Andre Ellington, but there were times when I thought he looked like he ran harder than any other RB on the team. Hopefully DJ Howard can have his lights turn on as well and become a pretty good back as well, but if not, theres two freshman coming in that will probably see the field early in Wayne Gallman and Tyshon Dye.

As I said earlier, this is right now, a lot can happen between now and Aug. 31st. Theres only one thing I think Ill ever agree with that Steve Spurrier said, and thats that you can always count on UGA having a few players suspended early in the year, and whether you like it or not, its usually true. Im not saying Clemson wont, because theres no way to tell, Neither team will maybe, who knows? I dont follow UGA football so I dont know exactly who your starters will be, but dont you have a good bit of players to replace? Ive also had a few UGA fans tell me personally that UGA usually just doesnt play their best football early in the year, which would be in Clemsons favor. Another huge thing in Clemsons favor is that its at home, and its ESPN Gameday.

Now Ive told you my reasons why I think we win, whats yours?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: In all honesty

Mar 19, 2013, 6:03 PM

Georgia usually doesn't play their best ball early in the year, but history shows they get up for the Clemson game to open the season. It's true Georgia does suspend a lot of players, but we made it through spring break with none and no signs of trouble, so hopefully the streak will end this year hahaha. Here are some reasons I think Georgia will win.

Offense - We have one of the best running back duo's in the country and that opens up the play action for Murray consistently. We are losing 1 WR on offense and that's it. Clemson will be young in the secondary and Georgia is a team that likes to spread the ball around, I'm almost positive we don't have a 1000 yard receiver, but we do have 4-5 500 yards or more receivers. You can pick your best DB's to cover our best wide receiver, since we spread the ball out so much, they all will be tested. Our offensive line and their full rotations are returning. We will have huge depth there. They already open up nice holes for Gurshall, and Gurley has proven just the slightest hole could be deadly. Yes, Murray does struggle in some big games, but just like Clemson fans saying their D got better, Murray has too....shown in the Bama game. 1 or 2 years ago after his first interceptions or that huge cheap shot by Dial on him, it would have all been downhill from there and we would have been blown out. After the int and hit, he came back even stronger and torched Bama. If he shows that kind of maturity this year he will be quite the force. Our tight ends are key and Bobo has FINALLY been utilizing them which I like. They proved to be solid go to guys on 3rd down, even deep threats on 1st. Last but not least we may have some new tricks up our sleeves. Saw some wildcat with Gurley and Marshall in at the same time against Nebraska in the bowl game, maybe Bobo is hinting and some new plays for next season?

Defense- There's no question Georgia is losing so much talent on defense, the question is....is that a bad thing? While Jarvis Jones was a force, maybe the best defender in college ball last year (led the SEC in sacks and tackles for loss the past two year) and Ogletree was huge at inside linebacker, we really won't miss the other players besides them, I'll be the first to say they were overrated. Yes our D-line was huge, but they couldn't stop the run to save their lives (12th in the SEC) and our secondary kinda fell off the map too, especially Rambo. Coming in now, we have Jordan Jenkins to replace Jarvis. He was a backup and still posted 5 sacks and a couple tackles for loss. Coaches say he could possibly make people believe Jarvis is still playing while he's on the field. Josh Harvey Clemson was recruited as a inside linebacker which we are converting into a saftey/inside linebacker pretty much just like Ogletree. He is extremely fast and a hard hitter. We also had the #1 Juco recruiting class this year, with a lot of them coming in to help our defense. Ray drew will be a DE/LB hybrid and I've heard nothing but good things about him. Bottom line is, this defense has the potential to be really good, but if I'm wrong, they can't be too much worse than they were last year.

We won most of our games on offense last year (besides the Florida game) and with our defense having a chance to be even better, we could have a great season next year. The reason I think we'll win is simply for the fact of our O-line and Gurshall. With the online being able to constantly rotate and stay fresh opening hole for maybe the best back Clemson will see next year, that will be huge. The ability to spread the ball all over the field by Murray is a key too. The sole thing I think this game will come down to is Georgia defense. They can live up to the expectations and hype they are getting in practice, or they can get torched by Boyd and co.........their choice lol.

No Blowout here...

Mar 19, 2013, 12:40 AM

I don't think it will be a blowout either way , but Clemson at home with what we have is going to be tough to beat with so many question marks on the UGa defense. Also , I am not thinking huge scoreboard numbers and I cannot quantify it as anything more than a hunch , but I am thinking 30-24 Tigers with the 4th Q being a back and forth. Tajh has only lost 1 at home in two years as starter...I think he is better than Murray...so Clemson by 6.

Opinion.

The difference is that Clemson claims to be an offensive team and absolutely throttles 90% of the opponents. We know our defense is average at the very best so we try to outscore people. Georgia just preaches "SEC DEFENSE!" and "SEC SPEED!" but you look like a sieve when you play teams with actual offenses. You claim to be a defensive powerhouse, we don't.

Google the AJC's article from a few months back stating your OL are a bunch of softies. Did your homer site not discuss about that?

Why don't you contribute more than 4 word sentences or beat it. You're boring us.

If spelling and grammar errors upset you, this may not be the board for you.

it will be a battle and UGA is always tough. You'll see some SC fans posing as Clemson fans on those boards, FWIW.

I will pick us to win based on what I know, but don't forsee a blowout of any kind.

Why do UGA fans think they will blowout Clemson might be a better question.

UGA fans look at games like NC State where we gave up 48 because we essentially quit on defense and tried to flat outscore them for the rest of the game. They think because they are in the SEC their 2nd string could beat our 1st string even though we have recruited the EXACT same players from the same high schools for 30 years and actually had some recruiting classes ranked higher than JAWJA in recent years.

I honestly think our defense in the LSU game was the best it was all year and we will continue to play like that. These guys have a fire lit under their butts, Sammy, Tajh, Shatley, and the other veteran leaders have been very vocal, they know this year could be "our year" with all the returning offensive starters and defensive front 7 starters we have coming back. I expect Josh Watson, DJ Reader, Tony Steward, Mackensie Alexander, and Travis Blanks to step up and play up to the hype that they have received for the last few years. When I look at this group under Venables I see a top 30 defense, which is all you need when you score 48 per game.

Silly question. Almost smells cootish.

Anyway, I haven't read or heard anyone say we'll "blowout" the Dawgs.

I think most logically agree that the game depends on what sort of defense shows up with each team. Lot of unknowns there for both of us.

Well if the AJC said it then it must be true. No serious UGA, Ga Tech, or any other sports fan takes anything that Michael Carvell and company says seriously.

What returning QB has better stats?

Mar 19, 2013, 6:43 PM

And nice job citing a play that happened two season ago during a game in which Boyd led Clemson to a win over FSU. Boyd may not be the best returning QB, but that claim isn't laughable because nobody can deny he's one of the best. Certainly better than any QB you will face in the SEC East, and certainly better than any QB you could face in the SEC, with the exception of Manziel (although Manziel doesn't have Boyd's skills though the air).

On your defense...

Mar 19, 2013, 6:49 PM

What kind of pass rush do you expect? Do you you think your young d- line will hold up against a veteran OL that pushed people around last year? Because if you can do those things, you can give Clemson's offense trouble. Otherwise it could be a long night on defense for the dawgs, as it has been for a lot if teams that have faced Clemson the last few years.

Re: On your defense...

They won't all be young. Ray Drew has some playing time, and we have 1 or 2 D-linemen coming in from Juco that already have playing time under their belts.

Re: On your defense...

Mar 19, 2013, 6:58 PM

Tajh Boyd is definitely a great quarter back. To say other wise is ridiculous. Murray is also a fine quarterback and I feel pretty good about having him back. As far as defense goes I have no clue how they will perform, but based on the talent that is there I do not expect a large drop off on that side of the ball. In fact Im hoping for more continuity. Rambo, Tree, and Commings were all selfish players with me first personalities. The only one we will really miss is Jarvis Jones. Clemson may win, but I wouldnt bet the farm on a blowout.

Re: Why do Clemson fans think they will blowout UGA?

Mar 20, 2013, 9:59 AM

UGA averaged 37 points per game. UGA is bringing back all starters except TK who will be replaced by Rumph (better than TK). 2nd best QB in college football and will be the all time leading passer in the NCAA halfway though the season. The best RB duo in all of college football hands down. Maybe the deepest and most complete WR class in the country and an experienced, big, deep, and really good o line.

I got a kick out of the wide receiver and QB statement seeing as how Aaron Murray has folded like a lawn chair under pressure and only has a million yards passing because he's started since he was a freshman. I also can't even name ONE of their receivers, so their receiving core being "the most complete WR class in the country" is absolutely laughable. Sammy Watkins has more talent in his right hand than UGA's who WR core. Hell, Adam Humphries has more talent than their wide outs.
