Why #1 ranking matters...

If I'm not mistaken, the number 1 team would play in New Orleans, while the number 2 team goes to the west coast in the Rose. The advantage of playing in New Orleans against anyone as opposed to the possibility of playing the Rose Bowl against a USC or Washington would be tremendous.

Grand Daddy of them all and the only major bowl we've never played in. With conference affiliations, only way we can get it now-a-days is in a playoff.

#1 team goes to the semifinal site closest to them and play the #4 team. So if we are #1 seed we would go to New Orleans as opposed to California, unless of course we end up #4 and the #1 team is closer to New Orleans than California.

If it was the committee rankings, you're absolutely correct. The AP and Coaches polls are insignificant.

The SEC didn't start the season with the entire SEC west packed into the top 15 as they have in the past. We have a good shot at being seeded #1 with the POC due to our NC last season.

I'd love to go out to the Rose Bowl and beat the ever living chit out of the real USC! It would be awesome to beat the PAC 12 Champion. Clemson could be the only team to beat the real USC and fake USC in the same season!
