Which expected starter has the shortest leash

Aug 2, 2015, 3:04 PM

if they don't perform up to standards early? IMO, it's got to be Gore. I went back and watched that UGA game last year and he was really, really bad (Battle wasn't that much better). He's had a bunch shaky moments in his career and the fact that he's one of the main guys protecting "the franchise", we can't mess around with him not being ready to play particularly at Louisville. I'd personally have Fruh warming up in the bull pin (figuratively speaking of course), the very first snap of that first conference game on Thurs night.

Tankersley

Disagree on Tankersley. From a height-speed-athleticism standpoint he's ahead of even Mackenzie Alexander; the knock on him was he just hadn't quite put it together. Unless he just plain melts down I think he's fine.

Fields may press him some, and he'll definitely see the field, but unless Tankersley regresses from where he was in Spring I suspect Tankersley will keep the starting job this year.

Gore...I have my doubts as well. I've seen flashes and he definitely looks the part but he hasn't come close to putting it all together yet, and he's just...nice, makes Cory Lambert look like a killer in comparison.

I do think by Week 3 or Week 4 there's going to be a pile of true freshmen pushing hard for time. Wilkins, Huggins, Chad Smith, and obviously, Fields on the defense. Cain, McCloud, Hyatt, and Fruhmogen on offense.

What that means for the vets ahead of 'em, I dunno.

Good to hear. Last I heard Fields taking him over didn't sound out of the question.

Whoever starts at the other corner position

M Alexander is a special talent and the best nfl prospect on our team. I think Tankersley is a good player, but Fields will challenge him from the jump.

I agree with Gore. This is the 3rd year they have talked him up as taking that "next step" and actually helping the team. I don't see it.

Love this guy, but there is also too much talent on the team for Peake to have a quiet year. If he isn't producing, I could see Thompson or Cain step in quickly.

I say Munson. He's had his shot at being "the voice". And hasn't lived up to the expectations. I think he should be put back on the scout team and a new starter be put in.

I'd agree with what everyone has said. So that Im not repeating a player I guess I'd say Dodd. From what the coaches have said about Wilkins I believe he could push anyone on the D-line for time. They aren't going to keep him off the field and if Dodd doesn't seem to cut it I could see Wilkins move to DE as the coaches have mentioned. I bet they can move him all over the D-line and create huge problems to opposing offenses.

Gore by long shot!! if Battle was still here IMHO Hyatt would take the R/t FAST!!
on DEF
Dodd is about like Gore..he has to produce or get on 2nd team

I dont think anyone is on a "short leash". its going to be 4 or 5 games before we get a definitive full first and second unit. Trying to single out 2 or 3 players who may or may not hold onto positions is just too early. Lets see how the fall practice works out.

Gore. Dodd. Tank. Gallman.

LG/C combo. To many options with Hearn, McClain, Norton and Guillermo. If one isn't getting it done, the next man up will.

Anybody expecting to play at tight end. This is a big question mark. Leggett better have his act together! Otherwise he sits for lack of focus.

Didn't Gore have his appendix or gall bladder removed last year?

Aug 2, 2015, 11:35 PM

I remember he had to have surgery. That could have really hampered him according to Dabo last year. He said he really got better as he healed. I'm going by memory but I do remember an article I read that said he was much better and focused after the surgery. The article stated something about he couldn't keep his diet right. Gore may be better if that was a big reason he struggled. It seems like the young guys would push him and the challenge to go pro. It's sort of now or never. I hope he puts it all together and reaches his potential.

I want the young guys to get experience too. I believe our OL is going to be much stronger. It's amazing what competition will do for all of us. I hope these guys are mean like Dabo said. We have needed some mean dirty OL for a long time. Our offense has to have appeal to mean OL recruits. The tempo plays into the defense getting tired too. It's going to be fun this year.

I think Hopper is in the biggest battle. With Cain, Thompson, Bell, Ray Ray just waiting to be the one. If he is inconsistent the talent we have at WR with top redshirt freshmen and two 5 star guys that will be impossible to keep off the field our WR's will be showing out because it's the most competitive group we have except for the RB's.

Speaking of RB's, Gallman's seat is hot to give up carries. Our RB's could all start at most schools. Brooks can catch, run and he has great experience if he can stay healthy Arkansas number 1 recruit could be healthy, fast and strong. Something about Brooks is special, I hope he's at his best.(Lookout) Most of the other guys have been covered and all of them could do it. I hope we redshirt Choice so he can get healthy if he's not ready to go. I can't wait to see Fuller running downhill on tired defenses in the second half. We are so loaded....Deep! Lookout Feaster is coming soon too. ( pinch myself and ask is this real, "that Dabo" is the best)

Blanks could comeback to claim his spot too.

I'm so excited to see the Clemson Football program excell with the recruiting, character, coaching and academics, we are living in the best of times. It's going to be fun, having a grounded coach who runs a clean program sets us up for a really long run of success.

Go Tigers!

Needs to be fighting for their job. I think that unit could look different by end of camp, could be some shuffling. Also keep an eye on RB. As for all the fields hype, I think he will be good but he is a true freshman who hasn't taken a snap yet. Let's see how it plays out I think we are undervaluing tank who may be a pretty good "big" corner. As for Dodd, I agree there he needs to be watching over his shoulder. Any number of guys could emerge there including the freshman tackles who can play sde.

With the stable of running backs we have it has to be Gallman. Gallman is a good back but I think Brooks and Dye will push him. I like what Gallman did last year, but IMO if Dye wouldve been healthy mid year last season he wouldve been getting those carries. I have high expectations for Tyshon. He's fast and strong and dont tippy toe in the hole, he hits it like a man. GO TIGERS
