What happens if we make the NCAA

Wins one or none… and then the ne t two years don’t make the tournament? Is that good enough? Is that what we want? People act like we haven’t been here before… the Pumpers will say we have turned the corner…. BB gets $$$ and extension and then we stink again.

Glad the team is playing great… hope it is the start of something good… but

Let slow down a bit …

Bingo.

1. Season is just getting started. Let’s wait and see where we are by the end of the season.

2. Even if we make the tournament. Let’s see how we do next season. Because what BB has shown is he can’t consistently make the tournament or even the NIT.

I for one would be happy making the tournament every other year. Just consistently make the tournament. I know we are not a basketball school and we don’t dump a lot of resources into being a great program. But we should be batter than we have been.

Regardless I am a Tiger Fan 1st and I’m happy where we are this year and am going to enjoy the moment while it lasts. Wait till post season to think about our head coach.

OP never won a game in the dance yet some think he was outstanding. As a program we have never consistently been in the tournament yet some seem to think that is somehow the standard. Just seems weird y’all can’t simply enjoy what may be a special season

I’m not sure I’ve seen that many fallacies crammed into three sentences but if anyone could, Cobbox is the man for the job.

Not that you care, but why not?

"OP never won a game in the dance yet some think he was outstanding" - strawman argument and ad hominem

"As a program we have never consistently been in the tournament yet some seem to think that is somehow the standard" strawman argument. Also falls under a false dichotomy.

"Just seems weird y’all can’t simply enjoy what may be a special season" ad hominem, strawman, generalization, red herring, appeal to hypocrisy, appeal to pity - take your pick.

Jan 7, 2023, 9:43 PM [ in reply to Re: What happens if we make the NCAA ]

True, but 2 separate issues.
Also standard and expectations are two different things as well.

The team results this far are nice to see. I can be excited about the team winning and still think we need a new leader of the team.

But then, there is the issue of Brad. Just because Clemson may make the Dance, does not make him a good coach or does not make him all of a sudden a good coach to build around. To judge that, you look at the entire body of work. Clearly underwhelming. You mention OP. It was not that OP was so good. He played exciting basketball. I would also contend that the ACC is nowhere near the conference it was 15-20 years ago.

So, if you make the case that Brad is now great. How did he get here? Did he read a book? Did he get hit by lightning? Did he get education on YouTube?
If you can’t identify exactly what he personally did differently, then absolutely nothing has changed and over another 12 year period, we will get exactly what we got the first 12. A couple of dance invites, no ACC championships, no Clemson pros, etc.

Out of curiosity, do you think that Brad has suddenly learned how to coach? If so, why did he wait 12 years to do it? Did he read a Basketball for Dummies book this past summer? Did he watch videos on YouTube?
If you can’t identify exactly what changed, then nothing has.

Sometimes, teams play well. Glad they are. But to pretend that Brad is the driving force is a bit of a stretch.

the ACC blows this year, from Jerry Pam this week:

ACC struggling

It has been another rough year for the ACC in non-conference play. This is especially notable in the quality of their losses. The ACC has 16 losses to teams currently ranked between 101-200 in the NET. The other five power conferences have a total of 30, or an average of 6 per league. The ACC has also lost eight games to teams ranked 201 or below. The other power conferences have a total of 11 and the Big 12 has none.

That will drag everyone down some as the season progresses and could hurt the conference on selection Sunday. That is not because a team's own NET ranking matters, but because the NET ranking of its opponents matters and about 2/3 of a team's games are conference games.

Hopeful...but I'll believe it when we make the Sweet 16

Jan 7, 2023, 9:43 PM

I've watched every year since 1986. I love Tiger basketball.

We've watched Brownell's teams have streaks in the past - only to have Lucy pull the football...again.

I'm enjoying it for the time being. But I'm not a believer quite yet.

I will say that this team has a maturity about it I haven't seen in many years. There are some real leaders and a great support cast. The development of Hunter Tyson is nothing short of phenomenal.

So I'm hopeful, but cautiously so.

You call anyone that is highly critical of a basketball coach with Brownell’s record/resume a “jerk”?

Would you seriously put your money, TODAY, on CBB winning the men’s basketball ACC Tournament? I wouldn’t!

I like Brownell. I do not want to fire him. I hope the Tigers have a great year. I pull for them every game. However, as a casual observer to "Fire Brownell" posts and " Brownell is a great coach" posts I would venture that the pro Brownell posters have turned more people against him than he has managed to do himself. I agree with Neff ..... let's wait until the end of the season and then evaluate his performance for the year before declaring it a success or a failure. There is still a lot of basketball to be played!

Re: Where are all the Fire Brownell jerks?

I think I can also surmise that because someone thinks that Brownell is not a good coach, or just doesn't thinks he should not be the Clemson coach, that they somehow hate him. He may be the best we can hope for based on our historical ability to attract top rated players. We may just have to be one of those teams, like the other football teams we play ......i.e. Wake Forest ...... that manages to find lightning in a bottle occasionally and doees more with less. Do I like saying that ...... no ..... but it is reality at this point in time.
