When T.Elliot Says Line Will Be More Physical, What Does

Jul 31, 2021, 1:35 PM

That really mean. Super O-Line gurus please help here. I would bet Clemson's O-Line in physical measurables, strength, speed, agility, size etc. are very similar to other Top 5 teams. Is it the pass heavy scheme and techniques Clemson has employed that were beaten up on by the Buckeyes or is this a conditioning training change?

We should move people off the ball

And show a strong surge. Especially at the goal line

This is a confession of how weak the O-line was last year

The O-line is all about physicality. This is as blunt as Elliott can be without causing controversy. It's a smack down on last year's O-line.

It's like saying,

"We need better decision-making from the QB position"

"We need more speed in the secondary"

"We need more sure-handed receivers"

When we had a run-oriented offense under Danny Ford, we

... we could move anybody off the line. We were a nasty run-blocking OL, no doubt about it.

But, those guys couldn’t pass protect to save their lives.

We had terrific blocking OL ... and we also had a reputation for never, ever getting an OL into the first round of the NFL draft.

For a generation, we couldn’t recruit great, well-rounded OL because of that reputation.

IMHO, we are only now getting past that perception both with recruits and with the NFL.

We gonna be fine. The UGA D line is unusually good, but we will be fine. In all other games we will give DJU all day to pass.

It’s the same crap the coaches say every year.

We are going to be more physical, win in the trenches, dominate the line of scrimmage, run the football, etc.

This is usually accompanied by inspirational videos of our strength and conditioning coaches yelling at players while they grunt doing power cleans and squats.

I am taking a wait and see approach. Our offensive line has largely been underwhelming for most of the last decade when it comes to run blocking.

I think some of the coaching changes and hires will have an impact. That and a full off-season of training. They’ve got to get Mitch Hyatt mean though. Bloody nosed and unrelenting push.

I like to invent problems at work so I can pretend to solve them. This has gotten me several promotions and raises over the years, I imagine our coaches are playing the same game.

The good thing too is the trust babies are too stupid to figure it out. Must be nice to rule the world.

We have never been physical under the former Vandy head coach. Titty blocking is never going to cut it and just getting fat and big isn't going to either. Where art thou Van DerHaven, where art thou? It's the coaching, not the talent.

Cut it well enough to beat Alabama twice in the NC’s 2016/2018. Not to split hairs by any measure.

Yeah, it's a real shame we know more than Dabo.
