When is the funeral for the U.S. Postal Service because it

Jan 27, 2021, 8:37 PM

has been dead for about two months. I have been on the phone constantly paying bills by phone so I don't have a late payment because none of the bills are making it to me. It is crazy. And then I have birthday cards that never came, some that came a month late and some that arrive in three days. It is really hit or miss, but at least 8 items were a month late, or never came. And did not get returned to sender. What I really don't like is when mortgage or car payment statements do not come. From what I gather, it is a combination of covid and heavy holiday backlog, but mostly light staffs from covid. I think it is impacting metro areas worse than small towns.

I guess this is the perfect time to swithch everything to online pay, but just refinanced in October and new mortgage is not yet online. It went from Wells Fargo to some podunk bank. I can't wait for them to sell it to a bigger bank. But this bank got statements to me before this post office mess. It is like a job calling and finding the new balance and paying on the phone and printing out crap. Plus, I like to see the statement from the month before.

They should follow Teachers Union examples and refuse to

go to work and still get paid.

I know a teacher that is teaching from home and she

Jan 27, 2021, 10:38 PM

has to come up with a wider variety of lesson plasn that will work virtually

redo all of her diagrams and visuals to match a laptop instead of a smartboard

conduct all of her classes at home, while her own children are going to school in the other rooms in the house.

Create breakout rooms to have private conferences with students

input all grades into the system

contact any parent of a student that misses two-plus consecutive days of virtual.

contact any parent of a student that has an average drop below 75

attend one hour-plus faculty meeting a week, one department meeting a week of one hour plus, and one content meeting a week that lasts at least an hour.

Submit transcript of collaborative planning evidence

Complete professional development requirements.

Attend any meeting called for a student that is on the SST plan or DES. She says that our of a total of 120 students, she has about 15 that require those meetings.

She has written at least 20 recommendation letters and that number will go up as this semester progresses.

She grades assignments on Saturday and does lesson plans on Sunday.

She gets over 100 eails per day that have to be cleared.

She gets texts and emails from students and parents at all hours.

two teachers in her school district have died of covid.

They're still getting paid, but nobody's refusing to work. She is doing a hell of a lot of work. Just sayin.

I would like to see all of these people who think teachers are lazy teach a full schedule for one month. 95% wouldn't make the 30 days.

I think you're right about that.***

I had to file a complaint with Postal Service Inspectors

Jan 27, 2021, 11:01 PM

Office... I live in SC. The Inspectors Office is a regional thing out of Florida.

It took a couple of weeks of sporadic mail and then I received a stack of envelope-type mail that measured 16" high bundled in supersized rubber bands... As far as I know, things have been normal since.

One thing I would suggest is speaking with your regular carrier. Mine was responsive and it certainly can't hurt...

This was back in October when they were removing the sorting machines... you know, the ones we didn't need.

I mailed 3 bills at the Senecar PO.

Jan 28, 2021, 10:03 AM [ in reply to I had to file a complaint with Postal Service Inspectors ]

1 went to Carol Stream, IL, 1 went to Dallas and 1 went 3 blocks away to Senecar Light and Water.

2 checks cleared within a week or so. Took 3 weeks for the 1 that was to go 3 blocks away.

Same issue here. Have had a few late bills...a couple

Jan 28, 2021, 7:53 AM

I didn't get, and a couple they didn't get from the bank via online bill-pay.

My personal favorites were the Christmas cards I got on 1/18 that were mailed on 12/14.

I'm torn on this one. Yes, it has SUCKED of late.

Jan 28, 2021, 8:01 AM

And for whatever reason as bad as it is here in Virginia, it is exponentially worse in Pennsylvania where my in-laws and sister are. They sent Christmas gifts that just arrived a week or so ago.

The explanations we have been given were it was multifactorial:
1) Just more demand due to COVID and the usual seasonal demands of Christmas
2) Short-staffed due to COVID
3) DJT's USPS shenanigans

I usually use FedEx or UPS but recently had to wait outside in the cold for like 30 minutes at a UPS store where folks were lined up out the door. So that may not always be a better option.

Then I hear from my Mom in Sakerlina who explains that she still uses the USPS because it is a little cheaper. And that makes me realize that the USPS is in some ways still a valuable service in the national interests.

So it needs major reform, but I am not sure gummint is up to the job. OTOH, this is the kind of thing the government should have a hand in.

I thought maybe I was the only one experiencing this. Not getting credit card bills and getting late fees. Last Thursday the postman put 8 pieces of someone’s else’s mail in my box. I will now start paying bills online which I hate..

Yes, I was trying to avoid online pay, but now will have to.***
