What's your honest gut feeling?

Mar 27, 2020, 1:20 PM

Will the season be cancelled?

I am calling that we will play this season and things are back to "normal" by June. What say you?

I think the same. Not just hopeful but looking at trends elsewhere. Think a lot hinges on whether this thing is affected by warmer weather or not. If it is, the downside would be it’s reappearance in the fall.

You should know. You best be worried about "Chicken Flu".

Re: What's your honest gut feeling?

Mar 27, 2020, 1:36 PM

Overall I think things will be back to normal before then. What does concern me though is the potential for cases to start up again in the Fall. I could see a situation where a player somewhere in the country gets it, and then it's treated similar to what happened in the NBA. In college there would then be the narrative of "why should these players risk their health when they aren't even getting paid?" So I really don't have a gut feeling at this moment, but it's hard for me to get around that fear as far as football is concerned.

I was thinking about that risk as well.

I don't think the season will be cancelled...

Mar 27, 2020, 2:05 PM

Worst case scenario, the season may be shortened (i.e., eliminate a couple of the OOC games) in order for teams to make-up the practice time that was lost.

No way it’s canceled, people will wake

Mar 27, 2020, 2:20 PM

Up in the next week or two and realize we’re causing more harm shutting down our country. If this continues another month the job losses will approach 100 million.

Mar 27, 2020, 2:34 PM

4 months in wuhan and they're slowly relaxing. That said, as others have pointed out, china took drastically different measures than we have. They tracked everyone down and threw them in a sick bay.

If they and SK open in April without a resurgence, we'll open in June/July. Think Big may be right. First 2 games cancelled to allow camps. Or try to let schools cancel the citadel etc and reschedule the fbs school.

We're getting hit hard and it's still ramping up

Mar 27, 2020, 2:35 PM

But countries like China and Japan are already recovering so I feel like we'll be good by August.

Man, I really hope so...

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it will be a shortened season if not canceled.

Mar 27, 2020, 3:43 PM

I feel good about the worst of this virus being behind us by then, with life largely returning to normal. However, the idea that a gathering of 80,000+ people being viewed as a good idea by then seems unlikely to me.

Why would you possibly think the worst is behind us? It's been ramping up.

To be fair, he said the worst will be behind us “by then”...

Yes, the key part was “by then.” Thank you!***

Nobody knows for sure but if things follow the same patterns here as other countries we should be well past this by mid summer. Lets cross our fingers.

Re: What's your honest gut feeling?

Mar 28, 2020, 7:10 AM

My gut feeling is that this will come back in the fall and all sporting events will be canceled again for the fall and spring "Flu" seasons. I do believe that people will be able to continue working using the lessons learned from the current outbreak but any kind of large gathering will not be allowed until there are proven vaccines and medical treatments.

Re: What's your honest gut feeling?

Mar 28, 2020, 7:24 AM

I agree. I think life will resume in some ways but it'll be next year before we get an actual football season again.

I see it being basically a year before large-scale gatherings start happening again, unless a vaccine somehow happens during the summer.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What's your honest gut feeling?

Mar 28, 2020, 7:41 AM

We might need the vaccine first.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: What's your honest gut feeling?

Mar 29, 2020, 6:34 AM

I can only speak for myself and I don’t know the percentages of people that take the vaccine, but I am sixty five years old and have never taken a flu vaccine. I have only had the flu once in my life, praise God. As far as this one, I won’t take it either.
It’s pretty sad to see how some people reacted to this news. I think the warmer weather will help, but like all viruses they make the rounds and mutate and are back again. Two things are certain...death and taxes, now it’s still death, but MORE TAXES.

Re: What's your honest gut feeling?

Mar 29, 2020, 1:33 PM

A better question would be why is this particular outbreak threatening football season but the ones that happened in the past did not?

This virus has a long way to go to catch the swine flu and nobody even talked about it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think there's a chance for a shortened, 8-game season,

Mar 29, 2020, 1:48 PM

kicking off in October. Limited bowl games and maybe a CFP arrangement that wraps before Christmas with the other bowls.

Would a city want to host a bowl game though? Inviting travelers in from all over to mix in? So much will depend on finding antidotes and vaccines sooner rather than later.
