What’s with Oka St golf? They lead by 13 after today. I have

been told that they are always loaded with foreign players, mainly Europeans, that have the luxury of going pro out of high school and, if they don’t make it, can attend college. Therefore they go to Oka. St. If this is the case, why hasn’t any school on our east coast figured this out. The recruiting advantage would be there are better courses in the east vs the mid west, and, you save at least two hours flying time to get home.
Just asking.

I can see why it is so easy for them to recruit the very best talent and why junior Golfers would want to go there.They have one heckuva Golf tradition and lots of current and past PGA Touring Pros.11 National Championships and 11 BIG 12 Championships.Easy to recruit when you can tell junior golfers that players like Rickie Fowler,Morgan Hoffmann,Charles Howell III,Hunter Mahan,Bob May,Alex Norén,Bob Tway,Kevin Tway,Bo Van Pelt,Peter Uihlein,Scott Verplank and Willie Wood went there.They Cowboys are always hosting Regionals and playing in the NCAA Tournament so that is anohter positive to tell the recruits.

That's what makes the career that Coach Penley (aka The G O A T) has had phenomenal on any level of sport. CLP has mainly had his success with local talent. It's incredible what he's accomplished with virtually zero support from the AD funds wise... Until recently, and that's with a lot of private help to build his center.
He's made golfers. His book really should be titled I did it my way. All of what Horry said. Plus the other schools out west have done it also. Academically, Clemson is much harder to get in to. Same reason ok st excels in baseball, softball, etc. Cheaper and easier as well as one heck of an international marketing strategy for golf.
And yet, here we are in 10th place with our ace having his worst tournament this year. With the way Turk is playing, had Jacob been on game, and Nottingham played like he did qualifying for Mackenzie tour, we'd be within striking distance of ok st.
Will be interesting to see what Coach Byrd does in recruiting.

Everything you said is correct. The team practice facility and building were built with funds from donations, much of which was raised from the Tiger Golf Gathering. Almost all of our former players who have had success as a professional have helped. Not only has the university not spent a lot of money on the program, they actually charged the golf program to administer the contract to build the practice range and chipping and putting greens. In addition, all construction had to be done according to state regulations which adds about 30% to the cost. So against all odds Larry has done a phenomenal job. Go Tigers!
