what's the longest you've owned a single car/vehicle?

Oct 14, 2016, 1:42 PM

still hanging onto a 2000 Pontiac GP as my "spare", bought new 16 years ago July. 250K miles. Been paid for 12 years, never been in an accident. Engine still purrs like an agitated panther, transmission starting to slip a wee bit, and a couple dashboard warning lights stay on all the time now (sensors broken), so what.

Costs $30/year for tax/tags. It would just be stupid to get rid of it at this point (KBB trade-in value $850). I drive it about once-twice a week just to exercise it. When it finally blows up, I'll probably just abandon it beside the road.

Anybody got something similar?

Mazda 3 with over 250k and Honda Pilot with about the same. Both dependable vehicles.

Also have a 1970 VW Bus which was not bought new :) and currently is not running again :(

Car 1: 4 years (6 years old when I got it)
Car 2: 8 years (bought new)
Car 3: a little over 1 year

I've never had two cars at once (that I drive...my wife has "her" vehicle, of course)

Fix would have been too much money to justify on a car that old, so I got another one.

Oct 14, 2016, 1:49 PM

Loved that car, it died in May due to an electrical issue. I didn't have time to get it fixed due to the move to Tucson happening two days after it dying, so I sold it to a buddy in Baltimore for half of the blue book. He got it fixed up and now its his daily beater.

Miss that car, hate the new car payment.

to make it to 300k.

Large dent in rear because the car is so sexy some old man tried to BF it...she has her hitches, but she is a great car. When she dies, I want to get another 4Runner and drive it into the ground as well. We did not buy her new, but she has been paid off for 4-5 years.

Oct 14, 2016, 2:03 PM

It had 90k extremely harsh miles on it, and had essentially been painted twice.

Grandfather bought a 1988 Pathfinder brand new, had 110,000 miles on it when I bought it from him. Has 117,000 now, and still runs strong. Got a little bit of an exhaust leak, but that's it. It's my around town vehicle, but I'll drive it to Gville occasionally.

There's a 2007 Sequoia in my family that was bought new, and is close to 350k miles. The biggest problem it ever had was the oil plug stripped eventually.

and trip to the store, pretty much.

Its last major road trip was to Miami for the Orange Bowl in 2014. I actually had planned for and expected its demise/last hurrah along the way during that trip, and then rent a car for the rest of the trek in whatever city I abandoned it in. It was the send-off it really deserved, and I had prepared myself.

But it refused to die.
So the legend continues. I may try it again if we go to the Champ game in Tampa.

torque flight three speed automatic transmission, Dana 80 series differential, 8 lug wheels. I found it sitting in a field with a burnt valve, paid 500 bucks, did a 75 dollar valve job and changed the transmission filter, drove it another 340K miles and gave it to Charley Robinson's, the junk yard and mechanic shop owner in Easley after about 28 years.
