What's the first game you remember as a tiger fan?

Jan 20, 2016, 8:12 AM

Mine was Clemson's bowl game vs pitt
It was in 79 , if I remember correctly. I do remember we got pounded. But the next year we beat Ohio state and started it all. But the Pitt game just plain hurt my feelings. What's yours?
GO TIGERS!!!!!

That game was pivotal. Not only because of the punch that just shocked everyone. But that we beat woody haze. He was the man back then. It was one of the greatest games in our history.

Was at the game with my brother in the student section. My parents were there in a different section and my father was pulling for ND cause we are Catholic ! lol He still pulls for them. He graduated from the Citadel and liked this season but I haven't had the heart to tell him Mike Houston is gone. But anyway that 77 ND game was so big and I feel lucky to have been there to see Clemson's coming out on the national college football stage. I still have the program. It was also my one and only chance to see Joe Montana play . I hated that guy for awhile after that but it was easier when he became Dwight Clarks teammate. Who knows where Super Joe would have been without Dwight's catch .lol

I was with my father in Orlando the night of the 77 SC game. We were visiting Disney World and we stayed at a Hyatt Hotel. I watched Rocky for the first time that night on the hotels version of pay per view. I remember thinking that Clemson would win the game easily and I didn't know about the catch till the next morning. Glad we won!

Re: 74 versus UGA

Jan 20, 2016, 12:41 PM

I don't know if it's true or not but I have heard that because DV was so packed for the 74 Georgia game that it was at that point the university first began considering expanding the stadium.74 must have been a exciting season given that Clemson was coming off the deck so to speak. We had just moved to SC in the fall of 74 and were a little busy getting settled in so I didn't get to go to any games that year but my brothers first game was that year in DV vs North Carolina. He always talks about what a great player Benny was. One thing I don't think I have ever seen is one of those 74 commemorative Pepsi bottles!

It still has the soda in it. Imagine what THAT would taste like over 40 years later.

The UGA game in 74 was also my first Clemson game.

My 2nd game was the 18-18 tie with Duke, where Stan Rome was placed underneath the goal post to try and block the long Duke fg which tied the game. Stan almost got it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was at that Duke game . It was in 76.

Jan 20, 2016, 2:46 PM

I was with my family. The field goal was an ACC record about 60 yards or so? I was in shock .lol I kept looking at the field as the Duke players went nuts then back to the scoreboard. It was like "What?!What happened?!!" Years later I met this guy while working in real estate who was on the team that year and he said the whole team was in shock too.
