What were your thoughts about having our #1 RB as kick-off

returner just when he was our best hope behind DJ since 2nd string back was injured and other one on bench.
Saying, SHiP got dinged up a little bit once while fielding punts.
Of course I understand wanting & needing some run back yardage in such a tight game.

I'd much rather see Antonio Williams on PR...he is elusive and has that explosive first step that makes people miss. I don't think Taylor has gotten his speed back to 100% after the knee injury.

Here's my opinion LBB. I wouldn't have Ship for ko or punt. Certainly glad it worked well for Antonio on the kick return but I don't like it being we're so thin in those positions. True, you can get hurt on any play but punt and ko are very low percentage for anything good. Just don't think at this point it outways the risk.
I'd rather see Ship get a slip screen on the first play of the drive vs maybe an extra 10 yards on a kick return.

Re: What are thoughts about W. Taylor as PR - - this is OK

Will Taylor on PR duty catches the ball. He also isn't afraid to run to get under the punt and then make the catch, instead of letting the ball bounce around if it's not kicked close to him.
That is the single most important attribute of being PR.
Therefore, I want W.Taylor as our PR for the time being.
Agreed that A.Williams is more explosive. Perhaps if A.Williams can get some successful 'garbage time' experience as PR, then maybe he can be put in that role to spice up our PR game.

Ship is not our punt returner. Will Taylor is our punt returner.

Absolutely not.
Antonio Williams or Will Taylor is fine.

My thought is we have a serious lack of speed.

My thought? Take every KO @ the 25 yard line and move on.

The KO has become a total non event in college football.
We actually return about 5% of kicks and almost always fail to get past the 25 yard line.
We got a decent return on Saturday simply because of Wake’s short kick tactic.
I agree ... we do not need Shipley back there wasting energy and risking injury.

Re: What were your thoughts re: #1 RB as KO - - - K.Pace

I'd give Kobe Pace a shot as KO returner.
He seems faster than Shipley (which is especially useful for KO return guy); he is also more of a strait-line runner than Shipley, which doesn't hurt as much on KO return.
Some additional exposure for KP on special teams would also be good for him / his NFL prospects.

Very risky. But does it tell you something about why? Maybe there is no good #2 or #3 to go to?

Not a big fan but that’s why I don’t get paid to coach.
