What Needs to Happen?

CBB is here to stay. I'm a detractor but I get what Neff is doing, or at least I think I do. I believe Neff wants a winning basketball program. My question to the CBB supporters is, what needs to happen with the basketball program, support, staff, money, etc. for Clemson to take the step away from a mediocre program to a consistent winning team with post season appearances past the first round of ACC or NCAA tournaments?

So yeah, we need to coach what we can get better than we do. We have some solid players on the team, just need to be coached to a higher standard. You don't need Duke players to win more than 2 tournament games in 12 years.

Note the OP asked "consistent winning team with post season appearances past the first round of ACC or NCAA tournaments". Since we have never had that in a hundred years of basketball and many head coaches how would "coach better" be the solution? Was every coach a bad coach? Yes we had a few good years here and there but usually followed by a bad period.
To answer the OPs question, an NIL would probably be the quickest way to make an impact.

JFC - we get it. You’re perfectly content with not being good at basketball. That’s fine. Why are you so triggered by folks that aren’t - even if their expectations are unrealistic? What do you get out of this? It makes no sense why you defend the situation so vociferously. Your position is literally “we’ve never been good so stop thinking we can ever be good.” If you’re happy sucking - which if your content with any aspect of the last 12 years then you are - how does making a coaching change threaten you in any way? It’s literally insane. Even if you believe a coach needs changes within the department to be successful - who do you think needs to demand those changes? This coach ain’t gonna do it? This AD has had oversight of our basketball program for 9 years!?! Do you really think he’s gonna pull a rabbit out of his hat. ###. You’ve already. You get another year of crappy basketball and a further detached fanbase (somehow your objective are fully aligned with those of coot fans but you somehow shirk that off). Even if you believe any new coach will also fail how is that any different!?

after twelve years, it is abundantly clear, at least to me, that CBB is not the coach who can lead Clemson from being a mediocre program to a consistent winning team with post season appearances past the first round of ACC or NCAA tournaments.

I am a Clemson Basketball Supporter...
I think CBB has one more year left.
Why? First the CBB's clock started tickin' after the Renovations (so from 2016-2017). Prior to that, it was just a coaching placeholder. And really, the 2010 and 2014 are/were NCAA worthy. Clemson (with their new AD) would have looked like a knee-jerk admin after basing a decision after this year. We had injuries and while not on fire before, the 7 loss happened during that gap. Next CBB did take us to the NCAA last year and had 2 of the past 4 years. Sure, 2018-2020 was a biog meh, but only being a game or two away from dancing isn't cause for the pitchforks. Add in the UNC win and that is enough to stick around.
As for making the basketball program work - cut about 20 million per year from football and give it to basketball. BB is what, near 10M now? Well Duke/UNC is near the 20M+ range right? Well you can't just match UNC/Duke, you have to go above and beyond so and extra 10M will work. Then rather than a meh 70 mill reno, we need to do a UVA big reno that would be about $200M facility investment. That should get us at least above 20 wins per season with the right coach/coaches.
Now is it worth it? As a Clemson Basketball Supporter? Nope. I want a good ROI...

So where does the extra money need to go? I'm trying to understand what's missing. I do not profess to be an expert in the inner workings and requirements of a top 30 basketball program. I also know that of all NCAA sports, basketball was probably the shadiest, and CBB's reluctance to mingle with the AAU bottom feeders prevents getting some of the higher rated recruits.
NIL - yeah that will help but we'll be outspent by bigger programs with deeper pockets. At least until there is some actual rules in place to prevent outright buying of players.
Would I be incorrect in saying loosening up the pocket book for assistant coaches and support staff and a solid NIL program would see an increase in wins?

if he was really basing a decision on CBB just after this year, but he's been at Clemson for nine years and knows full well by now what we are getting with CBB.

For teams in a power 5 conference, there's a correlation between being having NBA talent and making the NCAA tournament.
and the more talent you have, the further you go in the tournament.
We have no NBA talent. Yes, P J Hall may get there but one guy probably isn't enough unless he's surrounded by guys that at least have a shot at the NBDL/international leagues.
It's the talent.
Brownell coaches well enough to have a successful program if the talent were better.

Remember one thing boys. Players and I mean good players are what is needed to become consistent winners. Recruit better players and you will have a better team. Question is would better players come here?

Make Clemson a more attractive place to play basketball. It's going to be hard to compete with the big dogs of the world that get the 5* talent considering they pay for players and we don't.
We can offset some of these disadvantages by helping with NIL deals. I would like to see some paw bistro/slide/recruiting facilities that the football team has.
Brownell has finished better than his acc recruiting rankings on average since he's been at Clemson. Coaching isn't the issue. Its recruiting.
