What is the future like for the minor bowls?

Dec 27, 2013, 9:23 AM

$$$. 2+ night minimums @ hotels.
Travel costs.
School ticket minimums & expensive tickets.
Outside sources for tickets vs supporting your school.
Good seats all gone to corporate sponsors vs true fans sitting in upper decks.
Time commitment to go during holidays.
Good TV coverage & convenience of the couch.
Travel in bad winter weather & delays.
Bowls are meaningless.
Bowl tie-ins leave repetitive destinations for many schools.
Too many bowls with too many mediocre or unworthy teams.
Should there be a 7 win minimum for teams?

The people of TigerNet know the answers. What should be done?

No one is forced to go to bowl games so those that do are passionate for their teams. I would think that the law of supply and demand would take care of it naturally over time. Either they will be profitable for the host city, the bowl itself, and the invitees or the bowl will cease to exist due to lack of interest/profit.

Just saw some of the new ones. There was a moratorium

on new bowls up to this season. Been seeing articles the past couple of years about what money losers some of the current bowl are. If so then why would they want more? They can't have it both ways.

I have been to MANY bowl games as well as traveled to away

games and it is expensive. The greed associated with the bowl games and begun to take a toll on attendance and they will have to sleep in the bed they made. The "true" fans are not a priority, it is the tv money that counts and that is why the corps. get the good stuff, we are just sucker fish.

Hopefully bleak. 6-6 teams in bowls is rubbish. use the early bowls as games for the playoffs maybe then people would wee quality football and there would be some reasonable attendance

13th Regular Season Game

Dec 27, 2013, 10:54 AM

The season should be 13 games, must win 7 to get to a Bowl.

Results in more revenue, which is what it's all about anyway.

39 bowls in 2014. Article;

Keep the minor bowls rolling.

The are good for the players to get extra practice time.

It's a good experience for the lads to travel and see this beautiful country.

They give the fans a little more football before the major bowls starts.

The football programs get exposure which is much needed for recruiting.

The programs and their conferences make a few bucks which they spend on education for their players.

Ending some of these games will hurt the younguns.

Let the economic factors cull the bowls out if they can't make money.
