What I believe will actually happen

Jul 4, 2022, 10:40 PM

While speculation is all fun and interesting, sometimes the media and fans get a bit carried away. We put a little of what we hope happens and then believe it's a done deal. But here is what I honestly think will happen (and not what I hope happens)

1. The ACC will limp on. Clemson will remain in the ACC for the foreseeable future. So will FSU. GoR to strong, and SEC....well I'll get to that.

2. The SEC is done with expanding. At least for a while. The Big Ten is also done. They are both at 16 and will be content to stay there for several years. Yes that's boring and talk is more interesting. But I don't see Notre Dame doing the Big Ten or any other conference. They will renegotiate their TV contracts instead. Yes I've heard all the rumors. Very fun. But they are just that. Rumors.

3. The PAC 12 will expand to become 12 once again. But they will invite San Diego State and Boise State instead of any current power five program.

4. They ACC will probably not expand. But if they do, they will not go after any meat because none is available.... except maybe West Virginia. But more likely East Carolina and South Florida. These programs will bring nothing to the ACC and will be a bad deal....which is why I think the ACC will do it and sell it as a major accomplishment. (Let's hope I'm wrong on this one)

5. Clemson will continue to do well, but might have trouble scheduling good opponents out of conference. At 16 teams, the SEC very well may go to an 9 game schedule.....which means the Georgia and LSU may cancel future games with Clemson. I hope not.

Anyway....I do think this is a more realistic view of what might likely happen. Not a sexy view. Just realistic.

You might be right about everything expect ECU. They will never get an invitation to join the ACC, unless it’s a new ACC that’s trying to pick up the pieces after a Clemson, FSU, etc. exodus.

Also, it is untested, but I’m sure if we wanted out and an offer was forthcoming, there would be a legal battle regarding GOR. Perhaps there is a steep exit fee, but it would be settled somewhere between zero and all TV revenue thru 2036. And if it’s 4 teams leaving, there would be an argument that the conference is materially different than when the GOR was signed and thus should not be enforceable. Going to need some good attorneys.

No way the ACC goes on you sound like a coot. Can't wait till Clemson goes to the SECs East Division lol

Any expansion of the ACC would require any new team to sign onto this ridiculous GOR. What team in their right mind would sign on to that with everything being so volatile?

I think you are wrong in pretty much EVERY point you tried to make. Congrats on a near perfect
(-ly incorrect) post!
