What does it take?

My brother and I attended the GT vs Clemson game Fri. evening and the one thing we were both asking; What does it take for A basketball coach to get a technical foul. The GT coach slammed his hand (loudly) on the scorers table, which we both thought was an automatic technical, but it as not called. In the second half, the GT coach argued with a ref on the opposite end of the court for almost a full minute. This same coach came on the court on his end while the ref had the ball in his hand and both sides were waiting on the back from commercial signal. He was half way to the backboard. In the last Minute of play, with both teams on the court, awaiting the same signal, he comes down on the Clemson end of the court to tell his players how to line up. These are a few of things I saw at the game Friday night and I do not know how GT's coach is allotted Dean Smith privileges. Will someone please help me with my quandaries.

I appreciate your "Bull Durham" References, but it still does not answer my question. I have not seen other coaches on TV doing any of these antics. And Technical fouls are not necessarily ejections.
