What did you do the day you moved into your dorm........

the first semester of your freshman year? Do you even remember?
For me that was in August of 1973. I had moved into E section of Johnstone. I and a couple of guys I knew met some new guys on our hall and we all went down to the Red Carpet and had a "few" beers. Back then, the beer drinking age was 18 and I believe beers went for 35 cents. You could/would get wasted if you had 5 dollars with you!

I did the same ..... must have been in the same freshman class. I think we may have had all of 200 girls when I started. I think I was also in "E" in Johnstone on the street level floor. My room faced the loggia and was on the same level as the post office.

1973 checked into Norris Hall, went downtown with the Dillon boys to The Red Carpet, got arrested outside with an open beer.

Waited in lines all day getting a bunch of crap, got yelled at for various things, and learned to take showers with other men and no curtains. What was I thinking, Clemson wood have been a lot more fun. Thankfully it was 95-99 so didn’t miss out on much football wise.

supplies so I could build my unpermitted but completely stable and, if I do say so myself (and I do), most excellent double-loft. I'm 6'3, so for me to be able to stand under it, that sucker was inches from the ceiling. I barely had room to roll over! Thankfully my roommate was smaller than me so it wasn't a big deal for him. First couple of nights, though, I banged my forehead pretty hard into that old textured (and probably asbestos) ceiling more than once!

I didn't know anyone for 362 miles. Fortunately my random roommate was a 5th yr senior and he took me under his wing (1974). During that one semester, he taught me everything I needed to know. If you're out there Greg, I can't thank you enough.
Back to your question, we went to the Red Carpet where I met some of his buddies (all good dudes). It was so crowded I got caught in the traffic and soon found myself back outside. I was able to find him on my second lap. LOL

I lived in the old prefabs near the P&A building my freshman year (1980). Not really sure about the first day but I know the first Friday night I came stumbling home about 7 AM Saturday. My future wife lived in the prefab next door and she saw me coming in. Must have been love at first sight because we’re still together ….

straight to Judge Keller's store to buy a fan. (No A/C in those days in the tin cans.)
After two days I took the fan back and begged my way into a breezebox fan, as an exchange, and promised to pay the balance of ten dollars within a month.............Which I did.
Believe it or not, that box fan made a heck of a difference...still hot air, but tolerable with its occasional whiffs of slightly cooler air. lol

Moved into Johnstone A-609 fall semester '76. Room was on bottom floor and faced Tillman Hall. Most of the time, I would just leave and come back in using my window.
We went to the Bookstore(which is TD's now) that night. Played foosball and drank $.40 bottle Old Milwaukee. Bud was $.50 a can so drank the cheapest available. Good times!!!!

Went to the Fast Fare across from soccer field. Loaded up on beer and went to work on the all out construction zone in D6….sounded and smelled like massive new neighborhood build with all the sawing, drilling and hammering going on. Got to know bunch of the guys on the floor as everyone was checking things out and helping out. Great floor. Later that night, went for inaugural visit to TTT. What a great first day!

August 1979. Moved into Holtzendorff YMCA. Met two freshmen named Chuck & Doug who lived somewhere in Johnstone. Listened to some Beach Boys in their room. Then was invited to a party in Johnstone with GIRLS. There I was introduced to real BEACH MUSIC not prevalent in SE VA by a guy named Swofford (as I recall) and met a blond-haired blue-eyed cutie named Stephanie from Myrtle Beach. Took her out for a date or two later in freshman year. Many respects to her. 1st class young lady.

"Step" fashion, with a desk underneath one, and the other desk beside the other in the dorm room.Johnstone B-9, freshman year, and old F-4 for the last three.
That first weekend, Friday night, there was a group of five or six from my high school that went to Clemson together. We made our way down to the original "Study Hall" Pizza and beer joint, got us a couple tables on the upper level, and ate our way through some huge pepperoni pies complete with copious pitchers of beer.
I know I have had better pizzas in my life, but at that point, for that "Rite of Passage" from high school to college (drinking age 18 back then, remember), none ever tasted any better.
And, tough as it was to graduate, you'd best believe I would jump at the chance to do it all over again, if that were somehow possible.
