Play Caller

Sep 20, 2021, 1:00 PM

The play calling quality this year has been self-evident.

If T.E. and Dabo have been calling plays, it’s time to give Streeter a shot. If Streeter and Dabo have been calling plays, likewise, it’s time to change it up. Dabo does not have to wave the white flag at a press conference, but he does at coaches film review.

The play calling is rougher than a case of Mad Dog 20/20 and as successful as 95 year old leper at Studio 54.

We can do better. Dabo knows it.

What About Streeter - accountability!

Sep 20, 2021, 1:08 PM

SoCMan - I am usually picking up what you are laying down. I can't on this one.

My reasoning from a football standpoint: Coach Streeter hasn't in my opinion shown he can make adjustments with the QB. He is the QB Coach. And is most responsible for how the QB plays!

I just don't think giving the keys to the entire offense to someone who doesn't have play calling and winning multiple National Championships under their belt would be a good remedy for Ailes us!
Jeff Scott was the co-OC and did a lot of work with the QB's. That has changed. Clemson's offense was top 10 last year averaging 42.3 ppg so I think Coach Elliott's playcalling is fine. It's just not being executed.
If A. the QB or RB is getting pressured immediately then the play is blown up.
Or B. The QB isn't checking to the right play or making the right read - what play will fix that?

To me the more immediate thing is what is happening in the OL and QB Coaches room!

A play getting blown up before it has a chance: "nothing to do with the play call"! A play that is actually protected and the QB "aims the ball" or "air mails the ball" has nothing to do with play selection.

Just my two cents and all lower case my friend. With respect!

Thanks for the feedback Hillrock. My thoughts are DJ needs a different play sheet to get comfortable and play loose. He is an arm talent that is not adapting to whatever the play caller is drawing up. And coaches have had 20+ months to assess DJ’s strengths and weaknesses and have come up with what we are seeing on the field. No creativity, no spontaneity, no nuance. The Defenses know what is coming before the play which is compounding DJ’s stiffness and nerves. Just my take. Take care …

All the Offensive Coaches need to meet

Sep 20, 2021, 1:54 PM

together and talks there problems out and address them before more almost losses or we do lose. I would agree the QB Coaches and O-Line Coaches need to address the players/coaches and if they can not fix the issues or problems have someone who can on staff to fix them. The coaches need to stop blaming the players so much they are only doing what they are told to do during the games, yes the players make mistakes but the coaches are to be hold just as responsible they know what players can do and who's on the field if they can not execute the plays needed. The offense just looks out of sync completely from the O-Line, QB, WR's, and TE's, the RB's look somewhat decent or trying at least more so the other players are, but that is where the coaching comes into play but I haven't seen any progress or improvement from the offense as a whole and really no excuses with all the talent this team to look so bad on the field. Just my two cents.

Or, we could hire a real OC.***

A real OC?

Like one who has been the primary play caller for two national championships? Who had an offense just last year that averaged 42.5 ppg despite a lack of a solid running game?

Unless you get Lincoln Riley who BTW has not won a National Title let alone two as a play-caller, then you are probably downgrading.
Say it was mostly Jeff Scott - then call out Streeter? I don't see how you don't; if we think the absence of Scott is being accentuated. No adjustments!

Maybe get Kiffin or Sarkisian - but they have HC gigs! Who would Dabo go get?
