The thing about FSU this year

Oct 13, 2013, 7:21 PM

Jameis Winston is playing great for a first year QB,but what I've noticed in the few games is the WR's are not dropping anything. Don't know if anyone else has mentioned it. A big part of his and their early success.
Coverage is gonna have to be tight because he takes what you give him then sets up the deep ball. Vic and CC gotta continue getting busy on Saturday and I know they will.

FSwho has not played anyone this year.

And, yes they are making all of the catches. But I have yet to see any catches in a lot of traffic and I have not seen any receiver just get nailed after catching it.

They will be playing a D that is hungry, tenacious and will pop you when you do catch it. After a few pops those receivers start hearing footsteps and those arms get a little shorter.

go tigers!

Just because FSU hasn't played Georgia doesn't mean FSU isn't a great team.

Just because YOU haven't seen catches in traffic and WRs get hit after catches, doesn't mean it didn't happen. There have been both this year. And the starting 3 WRs all played last year as well.

Part of the reason you haven't seen it happen is because of both the WRs ability to get open and a QB who just flat good at throwing WRs into great positions.

No one doubts your defense has improved, but CU fans act like FSU has never played varsity football.

no, but playing inferior teams week in and week out hides

Oct 14, 2013, 8:41 AM

your teams shortcomings. thus, it doesn't provide the coaches with an opportunity to teach and correct problem areas, as they are not yet discovered. the speed difference between what y'all have seen all year, and what you will see saturday is night and day. you can't replicate these things in practice. at least playing y'alls schedule and having a bye week right before our game, y'all will come in as healthy as can be possible halfway into the season.

Re: no, but playing inferior teams week in and week out hides

2 of the lesser performances CU has had were against NC State and BC, which I would assume you consider inferior. If playing UGa didn't prepare you for those 2 teams how can you justify that FSU playing same/similar teams doesn't prepare FSU for CU. While I agree we haven't played a top 10 team, all we've heard is, wait til Pitt, wait til BC, wait til Maryland. You are putting a ton of weight on the fact that supposedly FSU has played anyone, yet CU had issues with the same caliber "inferior" teams. (Yes, I realize FSU had problems with BC as well, simply pointing out flaws in reasoning.)

As far as speed difference can't be replicated in practice. You do realize we practice with our own team?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Your own team doesn't want to kill Jameis

You can't replicate a bloodthirsty pass rush when you know that your own guys aren't going to truck you like a charging Beasley.

You are basically saying the same thing but trying to argue a different point. FSU hasn't played any quality teams or played in difficult circumstances/environments. Now to your point we also don't know how FSU will handle this type of situation or would have handled Clemson's schedule if they had the opportunity. What we do know is Clemson has played a top 10 opponent. Clemson has played on a Thursday night on the road in a hostile environment(it isn't 80k but NCST is a solid game day atmosphere). Clemson has played a solid team the week before a top 5 match-up. Clemson has also experienced playing in the biggest game of the season. FSU hasn't done any of this and has not had the opportunity to play on the road in a hostile environment. We don't know how FSU will handle it and that means until we find out it is an advantage for Clemson.

Oct 13, 2013, 7:37 PM

and I did not think they will be that strong. However, we don't know the real FSU yet. Note, BC had them on the ropes worse than us and I do realize this was an away game for FSU. However in college football, nobody knows and wins and losses are not transitional meaning if A beats B and B beats C, then A should beat C but in College football who knows...

I think dropping the ball 4 times will kill us against a team like FSU. Also what's up with us missing field goals all of a sudden...

We have to have a prefect game for us to have that win.

He missed one last year. Quite frankly, I'm glad he got that one out of the way already for this season :)

The thing I've noticed is that 85% of his throws come without anyone in his face and the receivers are usually open by 5 yards or better. He will not have that luxury Saturday night. BV will be looking to cut his nuts in the first quarter.

Oct 14, 2013, 8:25 AM

Couldn't that be true for Boyd as well?

Just because he hits open WRs doesn't mean he doesn't hit tight windows with pressure.

Winston has quite a list of pressured throws into tight coverage. Just because you didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Boyd has been running for his life for three years now

Oct 14, 2013, 9:57 AM

far, I've been impressed with young Mr. Winston.

Both teams will have to bring their "A" games. The winner will be the one that adds a "+" to that A.

Re: semenholes***

Oct 14, 2013, 9:42 AM

From what I can gather, Nole fans are counting on Clemson to lay an egg like we did in the first half of BC. We pretty much stopped ourselves against BC with fumbles, dropped passes, and general sleepwalking through the game. Still had close to 500 yards of offense.

Why anyone thinks this game will be anything except a shootout is beyond me. We dropped 37 points in Tallahasee against a better FSU Defense last year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It may be a one-sided shootout

Oct 14, 2013, 9:58 AM

If we get it together on offense and our improved defense does their thing, I'm not sure this is going to be a shoot-out. It may end up just being a drubbing if Jameis rattles.

Re: The thing about FSU this year

Oct 14, 2013, 12:43 PM

I'm not denying that CU has done these things, but just because CU has doesn't mean FSU isn't capable of doing it. My point was disproving yours. You guys seem to think just because your defense has improved that it will stop Jameis, or because he's RS Fresh that he will be rattled. I can simply use your logic and say he has yet to be slowed down. If Clemson is to win, it's not because you slowed down the FSU offense, it's because you outscored them.

If BC was a "letdown game," we still had more yards than FSU did. We also yielded 30% fewer yards to BC and 20 less points. I think the offenses are pretty well matched for talent. Big game experience will be a factor. I think we have proven that we are superior on defense, thus far. FSU gave up 200 yards on the ground to BC. We gave up 94. FSU also gave up over 200 yards passing to 3 avg pasing attacks, at best, in Pitt, MD, and BC. That is a huge difference. Jamies is a great talent, but he is going to have to play a near perfect game to win.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Could of, should of, would of is nowhere listed as has done.
